Hill-Wood dares Barcelona to make proper Fabregas bid

Peter Hill-Wood has revealed that Arsenal would consider a ‘very good offer’ from Barcelona for Cesc Fabregas but stressed that the Catalan side have not been in contact since their £26 million bid was rejected last month.

Arsene Wenger has already spoken publicly about his desire to see his club captain stay at the Emirates for another season, although with the Spaniard missing the Gunners tour of Asia and still struggling with fitness, speculation has continued to mount that the 23-year-old will leave North London for the Camp Nou before the start of the season.

Speaking to the Daily Star about the situation, Hill-Wood hinted that Pep Guardiola’s interest in Fabregas could be waning:

“I am not sure how keen they are. There are still stories in the (Spanish) press, but they don’t talk to us. They’ve made one offer, which works out at around £26m, but that was ages ago.

“But at the moment our situation is very straight-forward: we don’t want to lose him. Obviously if they come up with an offer which was a very good offer we would have to think about it.

“We have told them a number of times that what they are proposing is unacceptable and yet they haven’t moved on it. I don’t approve of what they are doing, but unfortunately it seems the way of the world right now.”

Having loaned Denilson to Sao Paulo, sold Gael Clichy to Manchester City and with the likes of Nicklas Bendtner and Manuel Almunia also tipped to leave, Arsene Wenger is desperate to preserve a level of squad stability as the new season nears.

Given the circumstances, and in the process denying suggestions that the Arsenal board were upping the pressure on their manager to sell, Hill-Wood also made clear that City’s attempts to sign Nasri would likely prove fruitless.

“City seem to have more money than anybody else, and they keep splashing it around all over the place. But our position is very straightforward: we don’t want the player [Nasri] to leave.”

So I guess the ball is very firmly in Barca’s court.
But having spent most of their budget on Dirty Sanchez, it’s unlikely Barca has the funds for Fabregas. As such, because it looks like Cesc will stay, I’d prefer Arsene cash in on Nasri.

argonaut

Dirty Sanchez? Is he the fella with the dodgy moustache?

Lord Teddy Ears

Love it !!!

Hah ! So glad the truth is out. Barcelona (and the papers that rehash rumours) are shits. One feeble offer of £26m ….they really can fuck off now.

Nasri stays. Yes he’s only got one more year but he’s never said he won’t extend. Bet Man City haven’t even put in a formal bid anyway. Fucking gossip merchants.

Exactly….Even blogs is believing the press sometimes…….

I don’t think they will CU now, they don’t have the wedge (even with the ‘he was our player first discount’) and we hold all the cardsso they will just have to CO.

Nkusuny

I believe that this poor barca are the ones using the press to unsettle fabregas in order to get him on the cheap. It’s vividly obvious that they don’t need him, he’s the one forcing his move and he should be regarded as a coward.

Masterwenger

Ok. What is a really good offer? I say it needs to be in excess of £50M. We dont need to sell.

Dave Gooner

26 million? That’s all they value Cesc Fabregas at? Pretty clear that unless they can come up with about 35 million more before an offfer is even considered, Cesc is going nowhere..

Why would Cesc want to go somewhere that places so low a valuation on him?

argonaut

26M is about what it would cost Cesc to buy himself out of the rest of his contract, so those Catalan knobs are offering the bare minimum.

Mooro

Keep that lad chained to the radiator. He’s going nowhere.

I’ve warmed to PHW. He’s like the old uncle who sits in the corner, says what the fuck he likes and blames the dog when one wafts across the room during Antiques Roadshow.

And this comes from one who vehemently wanted him out for sacking Don Howe and nausing up our chances of finishing in the dizzy heights of 7th that year. I was very young alright?

Oh no he didn’t…….!

It shows how piss poor Barca have been! PHW is spot on, basically cough up 40 mill or fuck off! And don’t bother coming back next summer either! As for Nasri, he is staying and if he leaves on free next season then so be it! There’s no way we’ll get an offer of 20 mill for him anyway. Financially we can afford to lose sammy on a free next season. Fuck barca and fuck city!!

apparently today (tues) 19/7 gaurdiola has come out in the press & said that arsenal have started negations with them about cesc,.. hope it’s untrue.

More hot air from Guardiola to keep Barcelona fans onside.
