Wenger confirms Gervinho signing

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal have finally signed Gervinho from Lille. After seventeen medicals and countless trips to London the deal has at least been sealed.

Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur, as Arsenal begin their Asian tour, Wenger said “Gervinho has just joined up for training today at London Colney. He signed last Thursday, and has just come back from his holidays.

He had a medical on Thursday: we sent him back home to sort things out for two days. He has a family with children. He came back yesterday and starts his fitness programme in London today. He is officially an Arsenal player now. I decided not to take him because he had had no training sessions”.

No official announcement has been made by the club yet but the Ivory Coast forward beomes the second new arrival after defender Carl Jenkinson.

Update: official announcement from the club says Gervinho has agreed to join and will be an Arsenal player soon ‘subject to a regulatory process’.

Certainly a step in the right direction. I wish him all the best. Now let us hope this isnt the last signing that we make.

Good signing!! two more defenders and a prolific striker like Eto’o and we ‘re good to go!!

Etoo and song?recipe for disaster!

Gunship

Would love to have E’too….To avoid any confrontation between the two…my solution is that Song defends as far as the halfway line…while the goal scoring machine does his thing upfront…..if only…

Yes!
Should turn out to be a great signing 🙂

Mooro

Happy to see the lad and his forehead finally join. He’s made it clear he wants to play for us and that’s got to be a good thing.

Looking forward to seeing him as soon as.

Hey if it works as well as Sheringham and Cole did for Utd i would have Eto.

MattK

Number 9 shirt anyone?

Gnasher

Welcome to The Arsenal. Just hope future signings this summer run a little smoother.

Now we have only the imminent arrival of Downing syndrome, and our 1 or 2 top quality additions are complete.

NorthernGoon

Fortunately Villa have denied we have put a bid in so let’s hope that’s the end of that. I’d rather us resign arsebloggers dream boy than bring Downing in.

That’s not a big forehead, its a combover. How old is this lad supposed to be?

Gnasher

24 years old – Gervais Yao Kouassi a.k.a Gervinho (born 27 May 1987) .

He’d better score at least one header every game with that forehead

[…] looks like the Gervinho deal is finally done for a price of near about 11m,which means that the Premier League can now boast about having the […]

I think his nickname should be Marge. His forehead defies gravity just like the yellow bitch’s hair.

I think it is funny how most clubs report a signing as “We have signed Huge Striker pending a medical” and Arsenal report “he has had a medical and is training but there are a few things left to settle”. It takes us FOREVER to sign players. I feel like the contracts we give them alone take days for the agents to walk through and consider.

A young centre back would do now as we certainly don’t need Cahill for that kind of money, Vermaelen is back and is an obvius first choice. Djourou and Koscielny should fight for the second spot, I prefer Kos though as Johan made a mess of himself through the last games. I suspect AW is gonna try playing Jenkinson as a CB wich would mean we won’t even sign one. And the most important thing we need is … A defensive midfielder. Song will be of to African Cup (+ Gervinho & Chamackh but that’s an other worry) and we… Read more »

Filipe Melo has behavioral problems both on and off the pitch, and would cost a small fortune for us to pry him away from Juve. He’s doubtless on huge wages in Italy, and I don’t really know if he’d mesh with our style of play all that well. Sure, he does alright for Brazil, but after watching a lot of Serie A last term I cannot see him in an Arsenal shirt. Seeing as how Inler signed for Napoli today, he’s off the block, but there are a couple of other players I’d love to see us have a look… Read more »

Saw this as a comment over on a YouTube compilation video of our new signing, and thought it was pretty funny:

“Gervinho, woooahh, Gervinho, woaahh

His forehead is immense, he’ll murder your defence!”
