Wenger: Wilshere will be back in mid-February

Arsene Wenger believes that Jack Wilshere will not be back in Arsenal’s first team until mid-February, despite his young dynamo making good progress on his recovery from ankle surgery.

The young England midfielder has not featured for the Gunners since pre-season and was forced to undergo an operation in September after initially being told to rest an injury seemingly sustained while playing Switzerland in a Euro 2012 qualifier in the summer.

Updating the press on Wilshere’s progress, Wenger revealed:

“He had a very important scan on Thursday and that was very, very good, exceptionally good.

“The news we have for Jack is very positive. No [he will not be back sooner], we will respect the delays.

“I count maybe mid-February for Jack.”

Good good news!

What happened to December? And then January?

arseblog

Nobody said anything about December. My understanding was that he’d return to full training in mid-late January and a Feb return to the team seems about right

Master Bates

“….the results were very, very good… back in mid-February”

If the results were very very very good he would have been back in january

Steve

He still needs to train and then get match time (usually with the reserves), so January would be correct to be over the injury but his match fitness is pretty much zero and will need rebuilding. You’ve also got the chance that he will break down again with a slight injury after being out for so long.

Fed up of Barca

not at all….

very very good can just mean on schedule

Anon

Wenger said he will “respect the delays”, or in a more simpler term, he wants to be cautious.

Reading comprehension.

Master Bates

hope this means Wenger will buy and won’t use the LANS argument .

Luke

what is the point of buying a replacement if wilshere’s gonna come back a few weeks later ?

Master Bates

if we had bought Big Fucking German last season when Vermaelen was injured it would have increased our chances in winning the UCL,Carling,FA CUP and the league . besides we need depth . you can’t have enough playmakers

Cygan's Left Foot

I don’t think Luke has been watching Arsenal for the last 6 years!!!!

Scribblers

Arsene seems very keen to play it safe of this one. Wishing Jack a speedy and complications free recovery.

Spooner

I’d been hoping a little earlier, but as long as we’re still winning before then, Wacko returning in Feb would be great – he can be supercharged for 3 months without too much fear of burn out.

I had a bet @ 35/1 that we’d win the league as I’d never seen such long odds. Once we biff City on Sunday, I might start thinking there’s a light at the end of the tunnel!

LANS!!!

song – wilshere – arteta

…salivating

Kevin Z-Pack

Certainly no harm in waiting until February… better to see Jack 100% fit than risk aggravating his injury

Gooners & Roses

What more important is at the moment, we cannot afford to lose Arteta. Simply because Song has his natural understudy in Frimpong and Coquelin (yes they are still raw) but someone to function like Arteta is not around. Im not sure if Rosicky (if he fit), Benayoun are able to offer a balance approach (offensive n defensively) at the moment. They are more a natural backup for Ramsey current position. Hopefully i can be proven wrong if the injury start to curse on Arteta.

Steve

Rosicky maybe as he’s played in that position a few times and he’s not as gung-ho as Fabregas was. We haven’t seen enough of Benny to make that judgement but i think he’d be able to be disciplined enough to do that job but may leave us a little short in defending.
Arteta’s greatest strength is his ball retention (it’s like the ball is glued sometimes), so that’s what we would be looking for in a replacement should injury strike

Dick Swiveller

I think Coquelin would make a good fist of the position that Arteta’s playing atm, he doesn’t quite have the composure and nous but he’s good on the ball, decent positionally and isn’t going to shirk his defensive responsibilities. He’s kinda somewhere between Arteta and Song in terms of natural inclination from what I’ve seen as well, that’s part of why it’ll be Frimpong out on loan instead of Le Coq imo.

Steve

I’d agree with playing Coquelin if the games weren’t as important as right now. I think experience, should Arteta get injured, would be crucial to get us through.

If he broke down right now, touch wood, then against City i’d probably go Benny just to make sure we had an experienced head to keep the team going. Had to deal with playing for WHU, who made it to #10 or struggled until he left and is captain of Israel, so can’t be all bad at working under pressure

goonerboy

Can someone scan Arshavin’s brain and return him to the player he was 2 years ago? An extraterrestrial perhaps?

1steved1

He should be ready for the Champions League then.

almelal

Benayoun deserves more game time.

BorisCro

stupid Diaby is never fit arggghhhh

Jay

Man City vs Arsenal LIVE Hopefully will be back in time to face AC Milan.

Thorough

He said we need a striker when he had already signed Park behind the curtains. Believe me people: Very very good from Arsene Wenger dont mean mid-February. It means January ending at the latest.

Cygan's Left Foot

Wan’t Diaby suppose to be back in ten days *small small muscle problem*? and that was in 26 Nov after the Fulham game?

Wasn’t TV last year was suppose to be back in around the same time LANS and we did not have to sign anyone?

Sign Gotze (I know he is injured, but it is only for few weeks) and a Striker to give our boys a chance to fight for a trophy with the money we have not asking to break the bank.

Charlie

We still need more creativity and ball keepers in wide positions. Walcott and gervinho have been good, but the reason our possession stats are different to last year is because the ball pings off our wide players whenever theyve got their backs to goal. C’mon arsene buy goetze. Arsene was planning reinforcements before we even lost nasri and cesc.

Spooner

Yeah, but we now look like we can score at any time. It just takes a clever ball & one of them can rocket up the wing in a flash. End product has improved (there seems to usually be at least a cross-come-shot!) massively.

I’d rather that than some short ugly bloke with an unusually fat arse dribbling into cul-de-sacs, to earn the spurious honour of being Silva’s bench warmer.
