Djourou completes Hamburg move

Johan Djourou’s move to Hamburg is complete.

The Swiss defender underwent a medical at the Bundesliga club this morning and will stay at the Imtech Arena for the duration of the 2013-14 season.

There is a purchase option reported in the deal, said to be around £2.5m. The deal means that Djourou’s Arsenal career is over, for all intents and purposes.

He joined the club from second division Étoile Carouge in 2004, and was so highly rated by Arsene Wenger that he refused to name the player in interviews to avoid hype and potential interest from other clubs.

Having established himself quite well in the first team, so much so that he had a remarkable record of not being on a losing Arsenal side for over 40 games, things started to go downhill when he injured his shoulder in the madcap 4-4 draw against Newcastle.

After that his form dipped, then dipped a bit more, before dipping again and then plunging after being forced into action as an emergency right back.

German football now gives him a chance to get his career back on track, so good luck to him out there.

Good luck to the good lad.

indrossi

good luck to him. played very well fir a while at cb, but faded when merte/kos came to the fore. I thought he played very well at rb when called upon, certainly better in that position than koscielny. and his behind the scenes videos were a hoot. he seemed to have genuine affection for arsenal, so ill think fondly of him. I guess there was just no place in the squad for two players whose names sounded the same, amd we needed our handsome french striker more.

Arsene's Waterbottle

Sad he never made it and wish him well. Would have preferred an outright sale but this seems to be the trend with Arsenal lately. Making a boatload on the best players but can’t get a dime for anyone else.

progman07

I’m satisfied with the way the Club has been doing in this transfer window. First we managed to offload a lot of the deadwood, then we put some serious bids in, at least according to the media reports, but it does seem like a different summer this time. Looking forward to the pre-season!

Bendtner?

is that fuckstick still an employee of AFC? He said 3 weeks ago he was leaving in 2 weeks

Fabulous

I really feel sorry for this lad. He’s really not as bad as people make him out to be. Still remember the 2010-2011 season when his name would be first on everyone’s mind to start (Kos was just purchased, Vermaelen suffering with injuries and we only had Squillaci as the other main CB). Strong header, solid tackler and with a bit of aggression. I hope it works out for him in Hamburg and I sure pray he doesn’t realize his potential elsewhere. If he wants to do that he should do it at Arsenal. Yes I’m selfish like that ;).

Fabulous

Oh and he’s a legend in my eyes solely because of this:

Good luck Johan. You weren’t the best player we’ve ever had, but you did do your job admirably on a number of occasions. Hope you get the playing time you deserve.

That’s four officially gone, with TSTEL soon to make five. Still two more strikers and a cuddly maverick to go.

andy

good luck to johann. hopefully he can get his career back on track. am sad he never made the grade with us as he looked a helluva prospect 3-4 years ago.

All the best Djourou, hope the move works out for the best

Mooro

Credit to him for recovering from the trauma of being a regular partner to Senderos, early in his career.

Any bloke that survives that deserves a bit of luck.

I hope he goes on to fulfil his potential after a difficult time. Always came across as a decent chap.

Good on Djourou for looking for a chance to play top football. Better than $quidlazy and Arseshaving who took every penny without doing fuck all. How much of Djourou’s 50k week salary will Hamburg pay? On that note how much is Arsenal still paying of Denilson’s 50k per week? Are these blokes off the books but still on the payroll?

EmanAFC

Still feels like great news after two weeks

davidnz

So what was Denilsons pay out ? Details please. And until we hear otherwise Arsenal is paying Djourou.

Did his job well? Against Bham in the Cup Final? Against Nani last year when he gave up even trying and quit at ht!

A Twat With a Keyboard

Good point well made. Koscielny is rubbish, he scored an own goal against Blackburn. Sagna is awful because he gave away a penalty against Man U. Cesc was terrible when he was with us, you remember when he gave the ball away in the lead up to barca’s goal? Do you remember when Van persie missed that chance against AC Milan? What a pathetic excuse for a footballer. Let’s not forget when Mertersacker got sent off against West Brom, nearly cost us the game that one did. I cant believe he calls himself a footballer. All these players should be… Read more »

Who is going to be interviewed anytime we are not doing good?

Good luck Djourou!
Meanwhile Nicklas BSTEL Bendtner and his babysitter still haven’t found a club despite having “5 or 4 clubs after him”

tomdotcom

I think you mean TGSTEL.

G4L

His career ended after a shoulder injury against MAN U in FA cup…

LANS

One of the good guys.
We’ll do very, very well to find a 4th choice center back as good as him.

Good luck johan, only player that i will be sad to see leave this summer! At least he tried his hardest for us! And for a while (short while) looked like the real deal

Chamakh

Au revoir, fellow bench buddy!

Naija Gunner

Good luck to him and I still believe he can become a better player in future. Let’s just hope the loan spell works wonderfully well with all concern, particularly Arsenal and Djourou.

Djourou now gone so his number 20 is available for a new player to select. Higuain plays with a 20 on his back at Madrid.. Coincidence?

I always Liked Djourou, looked like he could’ve been a great player for us…
