Arsenal 2-0 Hull: player ratings

We stay top with comprehensive 2-0 win over Hull. Even with all the changes, and that change, we should have scored more, but three points the most important.

Here’s how the players rated.

Wojciech Szczesny: 7/10 – Had little to do but was always alert to danger. Obviously got a bit bored and tried to create some himself late on, but got away with it. Better to do that tonight than in the next few weeks. Oh, and another clean sheet.

Carl Jenkinson: 7/10 – Great cross for Bendtner’s goal, looked a little rusty but that’s to be expected.

Per Mertesacker: 8/10 – Untroubled.

Laurent Koscielny: 8/10 – Untroubled II – The Early Bart Simpson years.

Nacho Monreal: 8/10 – Really very, very good indeed. His performance will give Arsene Wenger something to think about because as good as Gibbs is, Monreal just offers a little more in the final third.

Mathieu Flamini: 7/10 – All action, bombing around the pitch, trying to take Huddlestone’s shirt off him in their area, the usual.

Tomas Rosicky: 7/10 – Busy, lots of running as usual, but his passes in the final third didn’t quite come off.

Aaron Ramsey: 8/10 – Not unusual to report he might have scored, more unusual that he didn’t. His pass for Ozil’s goal was Cescmungous and the one for Jenkinson to set up Bendtner almost as good.

Santi Cazorla: 7/10 – Much more involved tonight than in previous games. Hints that he’s coming back to form, unlucky not to have scored.

Mesut Ozil: 8/10 – A fine goal and one of those games where he didn’t flit in and out as much. He flitted in at the start and stayed at the heart of Arsenal’s performance throughout.

Nicklas Bendtner: 8/10 – Under the circumstances – and let’s be honest, they were far from ideal from any point of view – a fine display. The early goal obviously helped but his all round play was very good and he created a fantastic chance from which Ozil should have scored. Fair play, we say.

Subs

Theo Walcott: 6/10 – Didn’t do an awful lot in the central striking position.

Jack Wilshere: 6/10 – Came on at a time when Arsenal were letting Hull have the ball for the most part.

Mikel Arteta: 6/10 – On to keep things settled down, did that.

Bonus rating

David Moyes: Bwa ha ha ha ha/10, you Moe Syzlak looking hypertwat.

Feel free to debate and discuss in the comments, but please read the comment policy first and don’t get angry with each other, or me, about imaginary points.

Bendtner 8….. WOW

the only sam is nelson

who *ever* doubted that he is TGSTEL?

fair play to the lad. he’s got all the attributes – pace, ability on the ball, heading, etc – he’s just fucked in the head is all. if he can score goals that help us win a trophy then nobody will grudge him when he buggers off on a free this summer.

Rufusstan

While I agree with his talent (always have), we need him hungry to get performances, and the last thing we want to feed is his ego

fredflintstein

He needs to get some confidence back as well as having people talk about you the way people talk about him, cant do much for your confidence, despite what he tells the media. For a player that hasn’t started in two and a half years, he could’ve easily gotten a hat trick last night & almost made a goal for Ozil. You could see how important that goal was for him. Good on you mate.

Goontang

Fair play to bendtner. We could of, in fairness to him played a false 9 tonight instead of the big man. But there is no chance that Arsene wenger would of thrown him in tonight if he had not been working his ass off in training. Well done Bendtner, he is certainly a better option than keeping chamakh around.

Gerald Gonzales

Ummm … you mean Jack?

*Sub, instead of Nacho.

kotuah

Cut ‘n’ paste I’d say. On the bright side, people actually read your blog. Up Gunners!

parlane

can’t help but love all the “likes” on your reply here blogs.
to be fair, it was succinct and captured the sentiment perfectly.

Master Bates
sebthered

How did Nacho & the Flamster both start AND come on as subs? Impressive stuff.

dgaj

Santi is on his way back to form. Looked much sharper today and doesn’t often get credit for his engine. The goals will come.

dgaj

Also noticed that he’s been getting more than his fair share of kicking and off the ball shit from the opposition this year.

WizardOfOzil

Disgusted United conceded. Don’t want them harbouring any notions of firing Moyes. Successive draws should keep things perched beautifully in the grey area.

Exiledgooner

Having had to put up with over two decades of glory hunting Manchester United fans acting insufferably in London (do they not realise how pathetic they are?!) watching the evil empire crumble is very, very enjoyable. A nice little bonus to the joy of Arsenal this season.

Double Canister

I have to thumb it down. forgive me.
the red scum must loose every single fucking game from here to eternity and i don’t care if satan’s sister managers them.

apart from that – point well made. thumbs up!

Rambö

I’m so excited that we’re starting to get so many players back from injury to increase squad depth, and by the look of it, everyone’s quality at the time. When Poldi’s back, our squad is starting to look genuinely terrifying, even though we’ve had a rock solid squad all season.

Sanjeev

Love it.

“Arsenal don’t have a deep enough squad,” they said.

“I’ll make 5 changes and win comfortably,” AW said.

Sanjeev

Love it.

“Arsenal don’t have a deep enough squad,” they said.

“I’ll make 5 changes and win comfortably,” AW said.

Rufusstan

So good you could say it twice 🙂

Sanjeev

Heh, not sure what happened there. But yes, so nice, I said it twice.

Arsepedant

And it was so good I thumbed it up twice.

Sean Bowen

Re: Bendtner, hate to say I told you so but…

I said it this morning! Ah, that’s what being vindicated feels like

evertsen

incorrect subs

evertsen

right

HadezFlame

Nacho Monreal was so good that the ref didn’t notice he also came off the bench xD

AP

There was a Start One Sub One offer on Nachos

EmanAFC

Nacho wasn’t a sub was he?

Highbury

Hahaha moyes.

deano

Monreal played that well he gets two marks

Gunnersaurus

I love TGSTEL. He really is international football’s everyman.

DroolPoldi

Blogs is drunk! High on Arsenal.

Beagleboy

Arsenal – It’s Highly Addictive!

TH

I know Monreal was good, but he definitely didn’t start AND come off the bench blogs.

Mark

I’m not entirely sure about those substitutions…

Christopher

Did Flamini and Monreal came in for themselves? Nice display!

E-Bo

Bravo, Rambo man of the match for me once again. What fatigue? Might have not scored for once but somehow his all around game only seems to be getting better… having said that, time to give him a bit of rest now Arsene.

WizardOfOzil

Subs did freshen things up tonight, agreed.

Naija Gunner

Super fucking LOLS u guys are killing me with laughters.

I love this blog, and blogs u shouldn’t mind all them drunk Arsenal fan, we are all high on Arsenal FC.

Hahhahahhahah.

deano

That’s two fingers from Mesut to Carlo.

Bigj

Now let another long good run from now on and see who can catch up with us

Beagleboy

Ramsey-Özil tonight: Face Off reloaded?

Bishop

If this is the much heralded Wenger ball, then who cares about Tiki taka which is obviously a low quality imitation of Wengerball. Big Nick scoring today was great, was rooting for Theo to cap off his cameo with a goal.

Great stuff goons #topoftheleague

Beagleboy

…and staying with movie references: Nick B. having a Capra-esque night: It’s A Wonderful Life :•)

GU1TAR-D3MON

What a wonderful predicament Wenger finds himself in… So many on form and talented players to choose from. Honestly wouldn’t know what to do in his seat, especially when having to choose between Nacho and Gibbs… But that’s why he is in that seat… In Arsene we trust!!!

Up the Arse

Der Springer

True about the Monreal/Gibbs dilemma. They both perform admirably defensively. Gibbs gives the team more pace going up and down the wing. Monreal does not have the pace but he has the better
ability to join in with the rest of the midfield in its mesmerizing close control, quick, short passing attack.
There is probably a way that Wenger can use them tactically depending on the opposition. I would be interested in hearing an analysis of how Arsenal could take full advantage this.

2013-2014 = 2003-2004

Before Poldi comes back and if Santi needs a rest, would love to see Gibbs at leftback and Nacho at left wing.

I’d go as far as saying Nacho is the best crosser of the ball in the Premier League. He always manages to launch one with pace and it’s usually inch-perfect.

Regarding purely the leftback position: if our opposition are dangerous down their right-hand side: Gibbs. If the opposition are parking the bus and we need the extra quality in the final-third to score, Nacho.

Rufusstan

Hasn’t that been the last 10-20 minutes of out recant games anyway?

Not a dig about the possibility, in fact the opposite — already seems to work pretty well

TA6

4 clean sheets in a row. Bloody brilliant.

I miss Bergkamp

Porous defense my Arse!

K

Indeed, Ozil flit in quite well today. That’s what I want to see more of going forward. This is the kind of performance you want against mid to lower table clubs. A comfortable, assured victory and no points lost.

A N Other

I expect Wenger to rotate again coming this weekend..not least because Everton are flying at the moment and then we have two or three tough games to come.

All looking good for arsenal right now. So much talent on bench.. It’s almost unbelievable… Biggest plus point is bendtner. If he can step in for Giroud for few games and chip in with few goals then we are sorted.

Richeee

I’m still not sure about Arsenal’s chances – Pundit

Who gives a fuck what you’re sure of you ass.

Zorro in the Box

Loved Robbie Fowler sitting there and answering a straight question with a straight answer.

The table doesn’t lie – unless you’re an ex-pro turned pundit with a bee in your bonnet and Arsenal are on top.

In which case, off you may fuck.

thikpal

But who the fuck thumb down this? Must be Alan Hansen himself

The Artist formerly known as DangerMouse

We now actually know how to do routine victories. The mark of champions dare I suggest?

Richeee

‘Are you watching Are you watching David Moyes’. Hahaha Everton fans made me laugh today.

Bergkamp Elbow.

Early goals I’ll learn to live with. And those juicy ‘warnings’ our next opponents keep dishing out.

Henry

I love how we not crash small teams any more just do the same for big and small, win win win. Next big thing, Everton, do it again.

chris nilsen

I really like gibs but how good wasn’t nacho tonight – brilliant performance!

Andy

Thought Bendtner did well tonight, should have scored a second when his touch let him down but held it up well and played his part. I think Ramsey has had his respiratory system replaced with a machine, his fitness levels must be off the charts in tests!!

Heroldgoon

I think with the face swaps Ramseys face should have been superimposed into ozils.

KoyaGun

Feel free to do that one yourself. Sure you can handle it.

Rufusstan

Surely Flamini has to be docked a point at least for not managing to pick up his usual yellow. 🙂

AP

I think he didnt bother knowing about the 5 yellows rule before that game he missed…

Eiregun

No Hansen on MOTD, I wonder why

Arsepedant

If the way to keep Hansen off TV is for us to win a match, then I suspect we’re going to see very little of him the rest of this season.

Rufusstan

So we are doing a public service as well; gotta love that

Zorro in the Box

Is Ozil giving him the V?

berlingoon

this team is just wow!

Mooro

Dat ozil is shit. He dont do nothin an don run arand 2 much enuf. And we payed 42 millyon for dat??????????? Wagnar out.

KoyaGun

We all understand the sarcasm. The thumb-downs are for your spelling and general literary issues with your post.

lol

HAHAHAAAAA all you needed to say was Wagnar!

ayoxlade

i’m just loving arsenal match after match,Arsenal is an addiction i wont mind living with al my life

Jib

I was really impressed today with the combination play between Cazorla and Ozil. They really looked the part today. Also Rambo’s pass mmmmmm

shuggietodd

Just got home from the game. Enjoyed that. Can’t beat a midweek game at the Emirates. I thought that nacho and Rosicky were outstanding..

shuggietodd

I’m more battered than Hull too….

Gooner

Sheer dominance! Szczesny was not on screen for a good old 15 mins at the start!

cheekyjc

Great atmosphere & performance tonight. Although can’t believe the fans who groaned on the occasions where Bendtner didn’t do something quite right. He looked sharp, and made the odd mistake, which every player does.

Zaharaddeen Getso

Happy that bendtner scored

Gunner pundit

This about ozil – “He flitted in at the start and stayed at the heart of Arsenal’s performance throughout”. #QUALITY PUNDITRY

emre

come on! Blog
with 2-0,great performance, clean sheet they deserve better ratings!
all 8/10 and Ramsey and Ozil 9/10. no big change but…
very team-WIN!
hope good omen before very hard games in December.

batt18les

Santi still hasn’t found his form and is playing below par when we consider what he can do o a football pitch but I was glad to see he didn’t stop trying. Worked hard, didn’t hide, tried different things. Hope he’s going to find his game asap. Ozil… Did you know that he wasn’t that good a couple days ago? At least according to same papers… Ridiculous. He’s like from a cartoon. Draw sth impossible on paper and he will do it. I still can’t believe he’s an Arsenal Player. Speaking about cartoons… Bart Simpson. We know his quality, we… Read more »
