Wenger: we sent Sanogo away

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Yaya Sanogo was sent away to work on his physicality for the last four months and, according to the boss, has returned a ‘different animal’.

The young French striker was reportedly sidelined with a back problem, but that information has been cast into doubt with the manager’s comments. Perhaps there was an initial problem, but you don’t do four months of intense gym-work and muscle building with that kind of an injury.

Speaking to the official site, the boss said, “In pre-season I saw he was under-strength and not ready muscularly.

“We decided to take him completely out and try to build him up for four months – two months in France and two months with us. When he came back on January 1, I saw he was a different animal.”

Sanogo has started the last two games in place of Olivier Giroud, and Wenger has made comparisons between the two as well as saying he’s not scared to throw in young forwards because they can cope better than in other positions on the pitch.

“When you look at his stature, he is a similar shape to Giroud,” he said, “but you feel there is a lot more to come out with him. He has a lot of improving to do. But you have to be open-minded. If he does well, he will play. If he doesn’t, he won’t.

“I believe up front that it’s not experience that decides things. At the back, it’s different. But up front it’s an instinctive job. Experience helps a little bit.

“But the belief, the confidence, is more important up front than the experience. When I started to play Anelka, everybody said: ‘Why do you start Anelka, why not buy a striker?’ We won a championship with him.

“It’s just like that, if we feel they are ready then they play.”

His emergence certainly is an interesting one. If he can contribute both in terms of goals and adding some competition to the squad in an area where it really needs it, he could prove to be a positive influence in the closing months of the season.

Good lad

Springbank 1965

Who? Wenger or Sanogo?

Erwandy

Whenn did we signed SanGOGO blogs?

Chamakh

Wake me up yaya sanogo

Binda

I just wanna see you get the goals goals

santi cazorlas coing to town

you’re much better than the cunt from togo

特别的人

Good on wenger for proving the naysayers that said sanogo would be a shitty diaby wrong, just another testament to how much we dont know abt things behind the scenes. Very very good move from wenger to see sanogo strong rather than rushing him in as crappy cover for giroud.

ElCapitano

Looking forward to seeing him bang in his first goal

Mooo

This lad sure has some ego in him, I am expecting a Henry-esque celebration.

goonerratic

So the back injury was just a cover?

AllGunsABlazin

It’s obvious there was a secret super weights room hidden underneath the Clairefontaine academy (or did he come from Auxerre?) that he was cooped up in, with only whey protein, barbells and a running loop of Henry’s 25 best goals.

AllGunsABlazin

*super secret

Oops

Pakistan Arsenal!

So if Giroud had gotten injured, he would have been brought back sooner I guess? And how long before Kim Kallstorm and Ramsey are back? Please let me know.

Harsh

I think both should be back early-to-mid march

Gutbukket Deffrolla

Wenger thought Kallstrom was looking a bit older than he remembered him, so he’s sent him off to the South of France for three months of rejuvenation treatment. He’ll be 22 in football years when he comes back.

FortKnoxGooner

Kallstrom is 2-3 weeks away from a comeback….Ramsey more likely to return in mid-march !

Arsenal Till I die

Ramsey is supposed to be back just in time for the Chelsea game

Gunner at Arms

Sangogo?! Anyway, best of luck to him. It appears he has been working really hard. All we have to do now is sit back and wait.

dBoi

I like how Wenger has dealt with this. Good strategic move. Hoping it will pay off. Sanogo has looked good the last two games. It’s a shame we don’t have any easier cup games coming up we could give him a run out at. Build his confidence and experience within the team

Jack's Right Foot

Thiaya Henogo. Yayierry Sanry. I’m excited either way.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

I like them. The best two players in Thailand.

Yayayayayaya come on

MacedonianGooner

Anelka was a fast type of a striker… A kind we so desperately need right now, like Aguero or Suarez. How i miss the old days…

liam

would you be happy with Remy, be good options then between remy giroud and sanogo

Vescucci

It’s hard to find an opportunity to say I love Arseblog and I’ve been reading every single article since 2006 when I became a fan and a friend introduced this site to me. Oh look, I just said it.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

You’re in the running to win that superfluous G in Arseblog’s next competition. He’s going to get Sanogo to sign it and everything.

Gooner4life

Is that another new player we have been linked with signing?
😉

Highberry

I’ve had plenty of errors around my parts but that’s another story

d7g7

It shows how little we know of what happens in a football club.

People (me included) thought he was injured all the time like a brand new Diaby joking about it, truth is maybe he was injured but he was also working on his fitness and muscles to be ready and available for the 2nd part of the season. And that’s why AW didn’t brought in anyone, he knew Sanogo would have come back in January.

Like a new signing, and this time it’s not a joke.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

Like A New Sanogo

Muse

Best part of Sanogo playing is that it’ll finally wake Giroud up. He’s not undroppable now and knows that if he doesn’t perform, then Sanogo will play.

Black Hei

Amen!

Arsene's zip

Sky’s headline? Sanogo is the “new” Anelka.

Not quite what was said, was it Sky.

Was merely a comparison about the age they got their first start.

Jomo

sent him away? why? there aren’t weights and fitness machines at london colney? Our personal trainers aren’t good enough?

Sir Ali

I am loving the kid already, and wanting to see more of him!

Come on Yaya!!!!

Goonbag

Sanogo reminds me of Viera, big and skillful, upper body is there just needs to build his legs up. Fast big and strong striker he will be

Harsh

Exactly what I am hoping. He has already shown he is strong and can bring the midfielders in play. Although on that front, he still is some way off from giroud, but I think the ability is there. If he can have some decent speed to make runs behind defenses, we have got a great striker in the team.

Chairman Meow

“Fast big and strong striker he will be” – That the jedi wisdom coming out a bit? lol

Duby

Hmmm! I’m thinking abt something here, is Kim in the same kind of situation(to improve on whatever)?

N

Oh, how much we didn’t have a clue what is going on. Wenger didn’t allow to be rushed into getting a striker. Yaya was ‘injured’ and nowhere near the starting spot. With Walcott and Ramsey sidelined, and no striker on sight, we were all a bit scared from where the contributions are going to come. Oh, how much we didn’t know. Chamberlain is pretty much one of our key players right now, Cazorla is assisting at will, and Yaya Sanogo now doing the Giroud thing on par with the man himself. Wenger had tricked us all again, and I love… Read more »

Different animal, hope he went from cat to puma 🙂

Say No Go

I CAN go for that. Woah. Say No Go!

Ben

…Arsene’s d cunniest man on d planet…Old Wise Frenchie…

Tenacious Defence

Careful there.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

Are you seriously trying to tell us that auto-correct changes canniest to cunniest? And and to d?

Maybe you switched on the Auto-Corrupt feature instead?

Fatboy gooney

Has the potential to be better than anelka,
But he still needs alot of work,
Stamina and first touch for example.

Gutbukket Deffrolla

What a welcome for him at The Arsenal… “Welcome to The Arsenal, Yaya. Now fuck off and put some muscle on, you skinny bugger.” It’s worked out nicely though, hasn’t it? Sanogo would have been hammered by a certain segment of the Gooner world if we had thrown him in early and might have struggled the way some of our recent strikers have, but after we tasted a little bit of ordinariness over the last couple of weeks he comes in, newly beefed up, and in two games where he doesn’t even score he is hailed inside and outside of… Read more »

Savage

Wenger loves this stuff … taking raw diamonds, sanding them down and applying varnish. Hope he’s oak and not bamboo.

Dreep

Still dont believe Wenger with that point though…

Fatboy gooney

GOGO YAYA,
PUT ON SOME WEIGHT,
DON’T COME BACK,
UNTIL,
YOU CAN BLACKEYE YOUR TEAM MATE.

Petit's Handbag

Another strange Arsenal story…..could he have not done this training & been on loan somewhere gaining experience?
And why lie that he’s injured just to tell us four months later there wasn’t a thing wrong with him?
I hope he’s good, but calm the fuck down. I see above he’s been likened to Vieira & Anelka…..he’s got his own unique style so let’s just let it play out and stop comparing every player that comes through to past players.
How many “new Cesc’s” has there been??

Rami Shaaban

Only one & he hasn’t even a game yet.

Indonesia gooner

and then you sold them
nice wenger

Jimmeh

I’m sorry, but does no one else think he has an uncanny resemblance to the main pirate in Captain Phillip’s?

Rami Shaaban

Yeah & also Morgan Freeman

WengersNoseHair

Yet another instance of Wenger getting it right. People just didn’t stop moaning when we signed this kid. “But he’s free, injured, and I’ve never heard of him. Wenga out!!!!” Ok, I’m getting a bit carried away myself, it’s still early days, but nobody’s moaning about Sanogo now. And Wenger had been tracking him since he was 16! His attention to detail and memory are fantastic, there really are very few managers like him. We’re already breeding a generation of fantasti youngsters, Sanogo, Gnabry, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Szczesny, Jenkinson, Wilshere, Ramsey, Zelalem. My god the future is bright, and we did it… Read more »

Forfuckssake

Sounds like the Rocky Horror Picture Show to me “In just 7 days gonna make you a man”

Strevs

I heard that Sanogo bulked up by lifting Park – hence why park went on loan – Sanogo was finished his weight training and we had no use for the Park bench anymore.

baba ijebu

bang in goals and shut the moaners mouth

Rocky Rocastle

Hehe, reading the headline i thought Wenger had literally sent him away somewhere. Puh

Chelsea vs Everton starting now. Come on Everton! Coyg!

Unyoke the ox

Maybe he’s done a similar thing with zelalem. He disappeared for a while. Oh Wenger you crafty man.

FLyiNG eAgle

he would start banging in goals once he changes his handle to @sanGoGoaL instead of @sanNoGoaL

musterphy

Wenger, upon all the scenero,we still need top striker.

Laurel

Yea, a top striker still needed. Throw in Jackson Martinez or Diego Costa into the mix and you have a strike force.
