Walcott set for under-21 return on Friday

According to the Telegraph, Theo Walcott will edge a step closer to first team action by featuring for Arsenal’s under-21 side when they take on Blackburn Rovers at Borehamwood’s Meadow Park on Friday.

The England international, who returned to full training this week, hasn’t played any competitive football for nine and a half months after injuring his ACL ligaments in the 2-0 FA Cup victory over Spurs on 4 January.

Inclusion in Steve Gatting’s squad suggests the 25-year-old will not be on the bench for Hull City’s visit to the Emirates on Saturday despite the Gunners other injury problems.

Serge Gnabry could also feature for the under-21s. The German youth international has also been struggling with a knee problem and hasn’t played first team football since March’s 1-1 draw against Manchester City.

YES THEO! 😀 Anyone know if we can find a stream to watch that game? I’m dying to see Theo in action again

Blaise Hayes

Go to Arsenalplayer.com and create a free account. Most if not all U21 games are streamed live.

tomchou

isnt it a tad early considering he has been out for long and came back for training just few days back? hope he has comes out strong

Andy Mack

I doubt he’d play more than 45 minutes (probably less).

@invincigooner

walcott welback sanchez.. Enough said..

Goonerific

Looks great except unlikely until 2nd half of season, by which point we will probably be out of all competitions and no chance on the league 🙁

Smudger

That’s the spirit.

Omo Eko!

A front 3 of Alexis- Welbeck- Walcott sounds interesting.
But doubt those 3 will start many games together.. think Arsene prefers a midfielder as part of his front 3.

Comment: Welcome back the impressive Theo14. Glad you overcame the nasty ACL injury. Looking forward to see you doing your thing for AFC.

remember the invincibles

Look forward to hearing the Theo chant on my TV.

Merlin's Panini

Still think this is a good time to extend his contract a bit more. We’ve lost nearly a year from him and he’s not all that far off (2 years?) expiry again.

Goooooooal

I think they are waiting to see if he is back to his former self after his injury and because it was an ACL it can affect the speed of a player which theo relies on heavily. Lets hope he comes back and scores a shedload of goals tho 😀

lynkyn

Yeah… The speedster is back

leighdickson

Like the new site!

leighdickson

Oh, and looking forward to Walcott and Sanchez in the same team!

Jamaican Gooner

Yes but no at the same time really wanted to see him on the bench vs hull but I guess U21 is a good step into getting back to fitness

UGooner

Worked for Diaby right? Just a joke, gays.

Ces1ne

That you Andre???

PS

Awesome, almost looking forward to the game on saturday strangely enough. (I should not feel this way after that thrashing away against chelsea + the massive injury curse that we have..)

Kebabs

We got thrashed at chelsea? Must have missed that one.

UGooner

I ain’t see that either and I re-watched that game… Well, the way I watched it the second time was 90 minutes of Wenger shoving that cunt, Maureen over and over again. Fucking great game!

Jordan

The club has never specifically stated what’s been wrong with Gnabry’s knee. Short of his knee being pregnant or having a drug problem I can’t imagine why they’ve been so quiet regarding such a promising player’s appendage.

iamgunner-lilwayne

Comment: hope you guys will love him through bad performances aswell.

tunawithbacon

I’m quite excited for Gnarbry’s return too. Remember how he won us the game against Swansea last year

bazza-wicks

any player back from an injury is always welcome at Arsenal, but Theo definately gives us a different dimension in our attacking force and also makes the opposition line up differently.

Ben

Well that’s a plus!
Go on Theo bang some in.

Alex

How come they let over aged internationals play in the under 21 league?

gunnermite

LANS

We tamale

Theo and ozil are the same person, think World Cup…

UnByeUsGoner

We can win the league!!!

weretheclockendhighbury

Great news but surely you meant “s***s”

steveafc forever

Have we got any fit players for Saturday lol ???

palace gunner

Gd news

flappylegs

I’d be so pissed off if i was a blackburn u21 defender. Not fair.

The Ghost of Paul Robinson

Not when one of them chops him down and he’s out for 6-8 weeks….

Trex d Gunner

Yesssssssss! Welcome bacK Bro.

Arsepedant

Three cheers, Theo is back! Hopefully this will be his only U21 appearance and he’ll be with the squad in Anderlecht. Can’t wait to see him tearing apart opposition defences again!

SB

Sigh, it’s been a season and a half since we signed Ozil but barely any Ozil Walcott magic time – I think their games are made for each other

mpls

Welcome back Theo, Curl one in at the back post for us!

Santori

Something positive considering the slew of injuries recently.

Meanwhile Ox has an opening to impress for the first team.

The added pace will give us better natural width which might actually benefit the team.

I think I prefer Walcott against more open defenses where Ox is probably better against congestion

At some point, we could have 3 Southampton lads running around for us!

Man Manny

Great to have Theo back. I still have a feeling we will shock many people come May. Not saying we will win the league but there is something about this team that makes me excited.
We have an array of exciting players that can take the league by storm.
I am cautiously hopeful.

gunnanerama

Great news!

Gunner76

Not Theo himself, but the THREAT of Theo is our biggest weapon and changes how other squads defend us. The most important player on Arsenal IMHO.

Danskin

Now that’s good news. I’m dying to see Theo back in action. I’d really like to see the match, but I doubt there will be any streams available.

Tenzo (Theo's [not so] secret lover.)

This may just be the happiest day of my life. We stalkers sure do have pathetic lives though.

Groznyy, Chechnya

Walcott’s imminent return to battle will surely lift the team. The feel good factor is sweeping across the arsenal-like when we signed up öezil. He possesses a wand of a right foot ( almost henry-esque). On it’s day, a combination of welbeck, Walcott, Sanchez, and aoc could be devastating.

mukkymaliq

I think with our defensive “issues” we have right now..the more suitable formattion is 4-2-3-1….withe the 3 being sanchez alex n ox..
