Gnabry on his way back after U21 run-out

There was another injury boost last as Serge Gnabry made his comeback in a 2-1 win for the Arsenal U21s at St James’ Park last night.

The German winger has been sidelined since last March with a knee problem – his last appearance for the first team coming in the 1-1 Champions League draw against Bayern Munich in March 2014.

Although he featured for the U21s this season, he suffered a setback late last year which required him to travel to a US specialist for further treatment, and now, been eased back into training over the last few weeks, he was able to make his on-pitch return last night, much to his delight.

“It’s an indescribable feeling to be back on the pitch”, he said on Twitter, “and on top of that a victory. That’s fun!”

It’s still likely to be some time before he makes the first team squad again, but that he’s on the road to real recovery is good news indeed.

Anybody knows if Bielik played last night?

Kozi

According to Jeorge Bird’s Arsenalyouth blog, Bielik stayed in London to train with the first team.

GunnerDareMacedonia

Wenger said that Bielik will play yesterday for the under 21 and that he is looking very good, maybe he was exceptional in training so maybe we are bound for a surprise tonight with Bielik included on the bench.

With players like Gnabry coming through, the future is Arsenal.

Gunner From Another Mother

Great that we’ll have him back soon. He was doing some good stuff for us before getting injured.

Rambling Pete

It’s great to see this kid back. I think he’s got the potential to be real star for us. It’s down to him to make sure he achieves what he’s capable of. Too many young players fall through the cracks. A bit like a lad I used to play with back in the day called Tommy Rappaport. He was a flying winger with all the skill you could ever want. He could dribble, he had pace and he had a shot on him like a souped-up bazooka. I lost count of the times that he won us a game. We’d… Read more »

Do you think he could still do a job as a defensive midfielder?

Me So Hornsey

Hahaha fell through the cracks…

Thanks Rambling Pete, first time I’ve laughed properly since Saturday.

Hilarious. Why don’t you keep this shameful nonsense to yourself.

A slightly sad, tragic Rambling Pete rant. But tragedy and comedy go hand in hand…

The boy looked great before his injury, I hope it won’t affect his game too much.

Merlin's Panini

It will be interesting to see how much game time he gets between now and the end of the season. He has a lot of competition in his position. I think he could benefit from a loan perhaps to a midtable, or even lower, side but is probably too good for a loan to the Championship already.

Mark

I agree, don’t see who is going to supplant in the lineup with so many ahead of him. In fact he’ll even struggle to be on the bench for matches because as it is now our bench will be comprised of the backup keeper, at least two defenders, one of Coq or Flamini (whomever does not start) and three mid/attacking players. Just assuming the lineup is the one from the Spurs game that would leave Walcott, Sanchez, Ox, Rosicky and Akpom (or any combination of players not starting) fighting for spots on the bench. There is also Wilshere to return… Read more »

When it rains it pours. Goes both ways for our annual injury crisis and new year return to form/full strength.

He lives!

About time, Shad.

In all seriousness, best of luck to the lad, hopefully he can get back to where he was and add to the already impressive competition we have up front.

Will Gnabry become an Arsenal legend?

Gnever say Gnever.

Alexis! The Beast Of London (TBOL)

Really do like this kid, he’s kinda like chambo. Hope he comes through as he is one of the gems we have growing.

Little Mozart

I’ve missed Gnabry so much!

WengersNoseHair

Apparently he played behind the striker, which seems to be where he plays at u21 level. Also, Wellington getting all the assists for Almeria’s two goals against Cordoba, funnily, both for his fullback. He recently turned 22, so he’ll be hoping to kick on. Although, who knows where we’ll fit another quick, tricky winger into this side.

Toni

Arsenal B perhaps? With DB10 or Frank De Boer the coach? I kid, I kid. But seriously, how about that.

Goon

I was looking forward to a gnabry ox battle this season. We have so many quality players. I wonder who will leave this summer.

kaius

Won’t be either of those two! Look forward to both of them ripping up Prem defences next season. That’s not a fucking joke.
