In unusually positive injury news, Arsene Wenger has revealed that Danny Welbeck should return to action earlier than expected.
The England striker damaged his meniscus against Man City last May, and it was feared he could face up to a year out of the game as he recovered. However, it now appears as if his absence – while still lengthy – won’t be as long as that.
“so we gained two or three months on the last medical check,” said the manager. “It could have been April.
“The good news is that they had to go in and check how his knee is healing, and if the inflammation is healing. It is healing even better than expected so we think he will be back in the New Year.
“It gives him a lift because it motivates him to accelerate the process a little bit because when you don’t know what is going on inside the knee, you are a bit uncertain. Now he knows, he can go and work hard, so that is very good news.”
Let’s hope that is the case, because Welbeck is one of the good guys, and is a very useful member of the squad. We know there’s a cynical angle you could take with this story in the current climate, but we’re not going there.
Good news is rare enough, so fingers crossed this all works out well for him.
In the post match interview after the new year when we lose and Welbeck limps off 60 minutes in.

I suppose that depends on the quality of the pickle, you know, we are not prepared to spend £8 on an average meal deal, we are working hard to find a gourmet sandwich in the (Shoreditch) market but, you know, sandwiches are expensive as the other hipsters have a lot of money and will pay over the odds for anything with ‘authentic’ added to it’s name so we’ll see on that front.

There’s something about him that’s very likeable and I’m gutted he hasn’t featured for us all that much.
Agree on the likeability of Danny. That bit where he says “What ya doin’? Subscribe” on Arsenal’s youtube videos always brings a smile to my face for some reason.
Likable, but not exactly prolific. As usual, Arsenal’s players get exponentially better the longer they’re out injured.

I had absolute faith that we would sign a striker in this transter window…..until I heard Arsene saying Wellbeck will be fit sooner than expected.
Hold on there. I don’t want to be a cynic, and this is obviously great news if true. But could it be just the kind of PR machinery fuelled media spin from Arsenal to calm down fans who are quite vocal about wanting a new striker.
This ultimately gives the club a reason to not buy a striker. I really like Welbeck, but I just feel the timing of this news from the club is suspicious.
Yes, with good reason. The PR department has been very conscious of in their efforts of appeasing the fans with their “leaks” through Ornstein and the interviews of Gazidis and Wenger. (It’s jsut that they’re pretty bad at their job). So it’s hard to take both the Gabriel and Danny annoncements seriously.
I couldn’t agree more. I would even go as far as saying it’s a message to the clubs from whom we may be eyeing their strikers, almost quelling our ‘desperation’ in the attempt to get a better deal. These days it’s very hard to believe what they churn out from within the club. A fit Welbeck is a welcome addition but doesn’t excuse the fact we need a new striker.

Sometimes I just want to explode in anger at the scenario in arsenal then I remember that there is a 90% chance this is Wenger last season and I calm down a wee bit. The optimist in me says releasing this info is strategy to lower the price of whatever striker we may be chasing. The pessimist says Wenger is counting on Welbeck as a new signing.

Im struggling to believe anything the club says after last years injury update right after the window closed(re.Welbeck,Wilshere). I used to love my club and backed them all the way. Now i want to punch them in the face. Right in the fucking face.

This would only have been good news had it happened after the end of the transfer window. Wenger will now try to make do till Welbeck is back and avoid splashing out on a new striker. Wenger out!
