Wenger: The goals will come back quickly for Sanchez

Arsene Wenger says that he’s not worried that last season’s top scorer, Alexis Sanchez, has just two goals to his name so far in the current campaign.

The Chilean has made nine appearances for the club, and has scored against Cologne in the Europa League and at Everton in the recent 5-2 thrashing at Goodison Park.

However, he seems a little less dangerous than usual, but it’s not something that is worrying the Arsenal manager unduly.

“He runs after a goal at the moment so he’s a bit frustrated when he doesn’t score, like all goalscorers,” he said.

“I’m not worried about it. He works hard and it will come back quickly. You can never try too hard.

“At the moment he’s marked well, they double up on him, but he still creates many dangerous situations and the goal – he just has not to worry too much.

“I know you always say that to strikers and they still worry but over a longer period he has always scored and that will come back.”

A couple at Man City next Sunday would be a lovely place to start.

Big Dave

Yes the will….. but sadly for Machester City probably.

moonie

What is with all this negativity. Good god man. Live a bit.

clins

how about some truth

ForeignGooner

All you here, listen to clins. He knows the truth.

Martin

So you think he will stop scoring till the end of the season?

Gooooooooonnnnaaaaaaaaa

Watch the last game on minute 80, and come back and tell me he isn’t 100% committed as long as he’s at Arsenal. Not saying he’s going to sign a contract nor am I saying he won’t leave in January or the summer. But I’d rather enjoy watching a world class player like Sanchez perform for the team I love.

Big Dave

No…. all I was implying is that his hearts not in it anymore at Arsenal and that’s coming across in his performances as we haven’t seen anything like the brilliance of last season. Not negative, just a fact.

The Far Post

Leaving aside the possible loss of form that plagues most mortals once in a while?

When one sees a player still going for a dribble-across-the-goal-mouth-against-four-defenders-angle shot at 90+5 min, and scoring, with the team already leading by two, one might be forgiven for not worrying about his commitment.

ChrisGoona

But Big Dave could clearly see his heart. His heart wasn’t in it! Leave aside Sanchez is playing in a new position, their is a new striker in town, and the formation has changed… his heart is clearly just not inside him no more… Well spotted Dave!

Andy Mack

Big Dave, his heart is always in playing football.
He’d be putting in 100% in a game in the local park if he couldn’t play professionally.
Personally I think he’s been off form for a fair part of last season as well, but he always makes a spot in the 1st eleven by the sheer effort he puts in.
His passing and shooting was erratic last season, but he still puts a shift in (which a few of the others could (and should) learn from him).

Dinobot

Alexis was pretty decent the last couple of games so I have a feeling he will come good against Citeh. I mean he is looking to impress his potential future employers after all, is he not?

Goonerink

Like the OX did? haha

honestly i don’t think anyone except alexis can make him play less than 100%

Goonerink

i.e. himself

Trez

Need to get back to a back 4 and add an additional midfielder to aide our front 3. They are starved of service at times and I feel like we could do with Jack or santi when he returns. Our problems defensively has to do with poor coaching. If we could go on a run to the ucl final back in 06 with eboue, flamini, Senderos, etc we can do much better with the defence we have at present. Bring Keown in to help Bould with coaching the defence.

ChrisGoona

Yes! Great idea. Let’s get back to a back 4, despite us being on our longest winning streak at the Emirates and the team coming into form. What do we have to lose eh… We can just do another quick preseason prep on the back 4 during the “winter break” to polish it a little, cos it will no doubt bring us a 100% winning record. The grass is always greener! Come on Wenger, can’t you see that you are always wrong, and us keyword warriors know more!

Trez

Yeah like we have all of a sudden become a defensive juggernaut because of it. We are still conceding just as much as we did with 4 in the back. We have the players to play a 4-3-3. Wenger should try it out.

santori

I like this, challenge Alexis against City.

Would be ironic if Alexis gets a hat trick against City.

Mpls

If he really wants to go there that would step up the proceedings.

TomAFC

Hopefully his mindset is to fuck man city up to prove a point if its true that where he wants to go.

if he has a shocker i’m defo not seeing it as coincidence.

Cliff Bastin

Hope he kneeslides in front of pep after scoring.

And also if I were Wenger I’d have Santi pictured in training this week for the mind games.

PVS

HAHAHAH. Love the idea

Mpls

I’d have Santi out there every week anyway!

Pedant

The goals had better come back for him or he is out the door at the end of the season. Be warned Alexis…

Caped Gooner

@Blogs, any word on the story other sites are running on Sanchez’s ‘Social Contract’ with the club to perform well for us against City?

Andy Mack

He needs to show them that if he goes there then he’s not a back up to the other 6+ top strikers they’ve got.

On a side-note, I suspect that if he does end up there then he’ll soon get very vocal about how little game time he’s getting (like he did at Barca) and be looking for his next move the following summer…

Mpls

Yup yup- at this point it almost seems they’re just doing the Barca / RM tactic of taking or unsettling just so the opposition is weakened.
