Report: Brighton 2-1 Arsenal (inc. goals)

Arsenal: Cech, Chambers, Koscielny, Mustafi, Kolasinac, Ozil, Wilshere, Xhaka, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang

Subs: Ospina, Holding, Welbeck, Bellerin, Maitland-Niles, Elneny, Nketiah

__

Arsenal suffered their tenth league defeat of the season as they went down 2-1 against a Brighton side who made the Gunners pay for an awful first half display at the AMEX. Goals from Lewis Dunk and Glenn Murray did the damage inside 26 minutes and even though the Gunners rallied after Pierre-Emerick Aubemeyang’s strike just before the break, they couldn’t find enough cutting edge in the second half to bag an equaliser.

First half

Arsenal started strongly. Aubameyang set the tone with a darting run down the left that earned a corner, Iwobi had a shot closed down at close range, Ozil curled over and Mkhitaryan nearly drew an own goal out of Dunk who shinned a cross just over the bar.

As first seven minutes go, it was promising. Naturally, such is life with this Arsenal team, we capitulated. Even by our standards, the way the next 30 minutes played out was embarrassing.

Brighton’s first venture forward saw Mustafi deflect a cross for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Cech flapped, Duffy headed downwards and when the ball dropped loose just four yards out, Dunk smashed home. It was another awful mistake from our first choice keeper. (1-0)

Buoyed by the goal, the home side pushed for a second. They could smell blood. The pace of Colombian winger Izquierdo, up against Chambers, was a particular threat while the likes of Knockaert, Gross and Murray did simple things like close down Arsenal players who had the ball. We looked somewhat shocked that Brighton didn’t want to allow us all the time in the world to play sideways passes.

Xhaka, Ozil, Kolasinac, Iwobi and Koscielny were particularly guilty of giving the ball away. In some respects, you have to praise them for getting on the ball, our new signings were totally anonymous.

The chances came thick and fast for Brighton. Corners were a consistent problem for the Gunners. Nobody in black seemed to want to compete in the air and we were lucky that Duffy and Dunk didn’t do more damage. Cech made a couple of respectable saves but really it was a case of when, rather than if, Brighton would score again. It came on 25 minutes.

Koscielny, who looks a shadow of his former self, gave the ball away trying to find Wilshere and immediately you sensed danger. Possession was moved to Gross on the right wing and he quickly hung a cross in the air to Cech’s back post. Mustafi really should have dealt with it but fluffed his lines and there was Murray to head down under Cech. More questions have to be asked about the keeping. (2-0)

We looked done for at this point. Honestly, every player in an Arsenal shirt looked like they wanted to be a million miles away. Murray had another header, Gross tried his luck from range and Izquierdo, after beating the offside trap to collect a free-kick passed through our non-existent defence, forced Cech into a save. The flag went up, incorrectly. There was also the sight of a frustrated Jack Wilshere hacking down Knockaert to earn a booking.

That Arsenal were the next side to score came as a surprise to everyone at the AMEX. Three minutes before the break a Kolasinac cross made its way to Iwobi. He faffed a bit, found Xhaka who cleverly spotted Aubameyang to neatly flick the ball home from a couple of yards out. Having looked on the verge of tears for most of the half, the new signing managed a smile. (2-1)

Amazingly, we suddenly started to look like a team again. We might even have had an equaliser when Koscielny’s deflected header hit the post.

Second half

Arsenal looked much more of a cohesive unit after the break as we went in search of an equaliser.

Ryan in the Brighton goal collected efforts from Mkhitaryan and Iwobi before producing a fine stop to tip an Ozil drive from 20-yards just round the post. Xhaka had a claim for a penalty dismissed and Aubameyang twice came close to netting his second of the game. First, he rounded Ryan after being fed by Ozil but opted to cross then he had an effort from another cross blocked.

The game was being played at a quick tempo until an accidental clash between Schelotto and Kolasinac on 65 minutes saw the Brighton man require lengthy treatment. He was eventually subbed off.

The delay helped the home side regroup and killed our budding momentum. Indeed, it was the Seagulls who came closest to the next goal as Izquierdo’s shot, after a strong run, flashed just wide.

Desperate to inject some energy, Wenger sent on Welbeck for Iwobi on 74 minutes and six minutes later sent on Bellerin and Nketiah for Chambers and Mkhitaryan. The desired effect was not forthcoming. Murray had the ball in the Arsenal net only for Izquierdo to be flagged offside for his part in the build-up.

For all our intent, there was little quality in the final third. Clear-cut chances were few and far before the fourth official signalled seven minutes of stoppage time. Even then Arsenal toiled. Aubameyang might have snatched an equaliser but he couldn’t get enough power on his shot on the turn after Nketiah had headed down a Kolasinac cross.

In truth, an equaliser would have been very harsh on the home side who picked up their first points of the season against a top-six club. The way Arsenal are going at the moment, we won’t be a top-six club for long. Burnley, five points behind us, pose a serious threat. How far we’ve fallen. How very far.

Too Drunk To Be Offside

#WengerOut. Those words amply sum up what is absolutely important for Arsenal. The defense is so sh!t that its not funny. Arsenal are no longer a big club and are really a joke right now. For a while Arsenal have been in a slide, but now the slide has become really alarming and the fear is that the speed of the slide will be even faster with the current management in charge. Arsenal just have to send a message that this is not good enough. Even today what absolute rubbish there was on display. No steel in defense, no spirit… Read more »

Adam

Look, we responded very well today to how we responded very well on Thuraday when we were respondonding to Sunday response to previous Thursday. You can clearly see the progress in our performance, today we played on higher physical and psychological level than two weeks ago with Ostersund and that’s the right perspective. We were a little bit unlucky today, if Kolasinac was sent off we could have surprised Brighton with our tactics playing 10 against 11. We were a little bit jaded today after a very long and demanding season but the motivation and mental strength of this Team… Read more »

I know Gary Lineker is a former spud and crisp crunching tosser but:

“If I was Arsene Wenger I would consider sacking Arsene Wenger’

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

I often look for your comments Twisted, because you often provide some golden content.

In the case of the FIFA hating – then FIFA loving again for the right fee Lineker, he can proper go and screw himself.

Twisted cuntloks

I’ve thumbed that up as it is a fair comment, thank you!
it just raised a slight flicker of a smile to the right side of my mouth in these dark times

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

You’re welcome, TC.

SFGiants

We were a bit unlucky? We were a bit lucky the Seagulls didn’t score a couple more goals.

Ian Wright -

Did 249 people really like this post? All I can read is excuses….”if Kolasinac was sent off, we could have surprised Brighton with our tactics playing 10 against 11″

So your saying that 10 men would have done a better job than 11?

Laughable!!!

Twisted cuntloks

erm, I think it was a piss take, just sayin…

GoonerJust

Even a mediocre team can beat us, their first in 32 years? And it’s our worst run in 16 years. There is only one solution for this loss of confidence in the team, but the club hierarchy doesn’t seem to know. I predict a half-empty stadium in our next home game.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Yup, Brighton’s first points against any team currently in the top six.

I say currently, I haven’t looked up how Brighton have done against Burnley this season.

gozzlehead

Referring to Arsenal as a “top 6” team does a serious disservice to the top 5.

Superfrog

Arsenal fan speaking ?

gozzlehead

You must not have watched the game – or followed the season.

Malvin

You are very generous why give them half?

Goongot

Ppl here say you should never wish your team to lose…But i am glad that we are losing and i want arsenal to lose against milan as well,I am pretty sure if we lose board will be compelled to fire wenger… I can’t stand a season with le prof at the helm!

Lord_Of_Highbury

I’d rather we had a fortuitous run in the Europa League similar to the one that took us to the final of the Champions League all those years ago….and still let Arsene go even if we win it (which is very likely just a pipe dream based on our current run of form). My wanting Arsene to go (maybe even the whole board while we are at it?) does not diminish my desire for my team to return back to winning ways and to the top where we belong, sooner rather than later.

Mkhi Most

I would love us to win the Europa League, though it seems unlikely on this form but I fear it would mean Wenger definitely sees his contract out until 2019. That would be depressing.

Lord_Of_Highbury

What’s annoying is that we are always playing catchup almost every game because of our atrocious defending and always conceding goals first. In the 2nd half the game was there to be won, but why in the world do they persist with sideways and backwards passing even in the dying minutes when you should take chances by putting the ball in the box and creating some chaos for the opposition? The downward slide goes on…how sad for this great club of ours 🙁

David C

Brighton goalie had nothing to do almost all game, so sad to watch.

rohit

We have to accept that Brighton are a better team than us. Next week, we will accept that Milan is too and after that that Watford is as well. As far as your #WengerOut is concerned, you must remember that he let go many offers for us, so, grow a perspective and accept.

Goongot

I want to beg all the gooners here who go to emirates regularly to start abandoning the games and encourage others to do so…I know you guys have paid a hell lot of money but anyways watching arsenal has not even being worth it this days..please gooners send a message to the board..get ur planes,space-ship,Drones out with wenger out message again.

Fireman Sam

Last home game was already half empty.

Who wants to watch this crap?

jon

What Goongot proposes is somewhat surrealistic. We are supporters, aren’t we? We’re not board members or share holders. Either you support the club – and one way to express that is to attend matches – or you don’t. Arsenal need us. Wenger is finished anyway.

#wengerout #xhakaout #mustafiout #arsenalout #premierleagueout #eufaout #fifaout #deanout #arseblogout

You know what!? We have something to play for. Beat the orchs and make sure we loose to the rest of the bottom teams (something we are more than able to do) so the cunts in Stoke take a well earned rest in the championship for the forseeable future.

#STOKEOUT!

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Sarky humour, much appreciated at this moment. No, really.

Voldermort

Possibly the worst 45minutes I’ve ever seen from this team and thats saying something, someone at the club has to put this man out of his misery for his own good as he’s far to arrogant to go on his own. I dont feel sorry for him, its now largely of his own making, he should have gone a few years ago, but I’ve always tried to respect the bloke for whats he’s done in the past, but even that respect is dying the longer he tries to hang on. Enough is enough surely the fans have to count for… Read more »

This idea that we don’t sack a manager during the season has always been stupid and now we’re seeing why. It’s like telling manager and players that there’s no standards.

And Wenger can coach for another 10 years if he wants. But players don’t have that time. We’re wasting and wrecking player’s careers out there, just to preserve the ‘dignity’ of one man.

Jesus christ, get a grip Arsenal.

Honest gooner

I think there may be a change of manager pn the horizon.

Fireman Sam

Only question is …how long do we have to endure this pain?

Another few losses and even stubborn old Wenger will have to resign surely

Heavenly Chapecoense

I see what you mean but I never saw Wenger lose a ball or miss a chance on the pitch. These players deserve the career they’re having and even worse.

Lula

Seems like an unfair litmus test, there.

Voldermort

i agree to certain extent. the players have to take some degree of blame, but i see what the ox is doing at Liverpool, the bloke gets better by the week and it convinces more that these players are just not being coached right.

Deano

Nail on the head Voldermort. Still no sign of Jack signing on, Ramsey likewise. Theo happy to go, Ox turned down a better financial offer to jump ship and now Bellerin linked with a move. All this pointing out the desire these players have to get out while they can.

kaius

Wenger brought every single player on the pitch (except the home-grown and youth-team players) to the club. The last proper midfielder he signed before Xhaka was Cazorla in 2013, and he was signed as an attacking player. Wenger has let two transfer windows pass without upgrading our defense.

We’re going through probably a worse slump now than the one we had a year ago, just with a 6-7 different players. There’s one element that remains constant through that. If you can’t see it at this stage, you never will.

GraeB

Why should they worry – they’re still being paid obscene amounts of money every week. Until they have a manager who makes life tough for them, they’ll carry on. Defensive coaching, indeed any sort of coaching, in basics is required.

Wenger signed them, Wenger picked them, Wenger coached them, Wenger watched them – he has to be responsible. We’ve all worked for bosses we didn’t respect and consciously or subconsciously worked in a way that saw them suffer.

Eric Blair

Don’t give me the ‘poor, poor, players’ bull, they’re the ones out there week in week out putting on this shit-show. Wenger is culpable, but he is’nt the only one. I wonder if there’s anyone involved in the club who isn’t, even the tea lady is probably brewing up piss-warm pg tips in the canteen.

Deano

Agreed the board are as much to blame for not removing him from office and continuing the decline.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Delaware North are responsible for catering, and they’re massive rip – off merchants as well.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Terry Neill was sacked in December 1983 after a Milk Cup home loss to Walsall.

George Graham was sacked in February 1995 after some messy financial business.

Arsene Wenger gets to stay because the figure below the line keeps producing a steady profit for the owner. There’s no other reason.

Frank

What twisted perspective is he gonna find to explain away this one?

Maniac

“I think we produced our highest p̶h̶y̶s̶i̶c̶a̶l̶ mental performance of the season.”

Lula

We lacked tenacity in the final third and felt the players have lost a bit of confidence from the previous week, we should have had a penalty which would have changed the game etc.

1. Blame someone else.
2. Talk about things impossibly intangible as if there the only things.
3. Say our perspective is wrong and his is right.

Any one of these, I’d imagine.

some fat fella

Finally we’re finding some consistency in our results, I have a contract and Ive always respected my contracts, i mean its 10 millions a year to do the shittiest job possible, and dont forget 15 years ago I had an offer from Madrid when I last won a title, I’d be there earning 10 millions a year right now doing shitty jobs if I didnt love Arsenal. I won a title here when mobiles didnt take pictures, I will leave when you prove me I’m not a god for doing that

Mootilated

Sead Collisionac.

Officiating was disgraceful today.

kaius

Surprised it’s taken this long for Sead the Tank to knock someone out to be honest. It’s a typical Premier League challenge, both players went in hard, both could have been hurt.

Good on the ref for not over-reacting.

Mootilated

He should have been sent off. He shoulder charged the guy in the head!

HamiltonGunner

Glad someone said it. That was exceedingly dangerous and deserving of a second yellow.

Goongot

Why is mootilated being downvoted…same happened with alonso vs bellerin Last season and you guys were Rightly angry about it…look it up again sead had every intention to foul him and was deserved red.

Mootilated

Also, Brighton player got a ‘yellow’ for a tackle on WIlshere but it was not even a foul, let alone a yellow and also had a goal scoring opportunity denied by poor officiating when they called offside during a set piece.

All that excluding the foul throw from Wilshere which was not given.

Very poor officiating overall.

HamiltonGunner

I couldn’t agree more. When it happens to us we are incensed. When we do it we excuse it. It was a shocking and dangerous challenge.

kaius

The worst part of the Alonso challenge was him not checking on Bellerin and running away to celebrate.

Kolasinac had the good sense to immediately check on the player and apologise as he was leaving the field. He deserved the leniency he got.

goongot

i wonder if sead would have apologised if he would have scored !

kaius

Some of you guys have not played the game and it shows. Lowering your center of gravity to stabilise yourself as you go into a challenge is not foul play. Both players made the same motion, and the ref correctly judged that although it was a foul by Kolasinac, it was not worthy of a 2nd yellow.

We’ve had so many brutal challenges against us that weren’t carded. Why should we complain if one of our own gets the benefit of the doubt for once? You lot are funny.

Mootilated

He didnt even give the foul though. Play continued through a throw in

kaius

You’re right, he didn’t give a foul. Shows the ref saw it as a 50-50, nothing more.

MrSweaty

Saw this coming. Does it make me feel any better? Nope.

Goongot

Doom days and it’s going to be toxic chat forum…

For those who want to lighten up, Here’s a report from the wilshere goal against norwich. The chat forum was so positive back then…

FanniboyWelbz

That’s just depressing

Gio

Hey guys, let’s not overreact. We have to put this defeat in “perspective”.

ATG

Hahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

LuisBoaMuerte

I think we have to put the last decade into perspective

Maniac

Strange. I’ve put all the variables into my perspective calculator but it’s still telling me that we’re shit…

GraeB

“We have drawn the second half of our last two games which shows the mental resolve of the players.

” We have been playing with the handbrake on and showing the problems caused by defeats at all the top teams like Forest, Bournemouth, Swansea and Ostersund.

” I never break a contract and my board are very happy that I can get so many people paying vast amounts for a poor product. If Woolworth could have had me in charge they would still be in business”

Anyone want two season tickets?

Heavenly Chapecoense

Staying in PL and not being relagated is not given. You do not receive an invitation card from the league every year.

my name is bob

Well that was boring and predictable

Dave

Gooners do the right thing, show the board what needs to be done. Stay away from Arsenal till Wenger’s gone.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Staying away until all traces of Kroenke family involvement have been removed would be even better.

Obasang

Oh how the once mighty have fallen. What a sad state of affairs…..

MeSoHornsey

The good thing about this is at least I saw glimpses in the 2nd half of what a decent manager might be able to do with this team.

The bad thing is I didnt expect at any point of this game that we would win. And I’m not even upset. I feel nothing.

Lula

We might not like them but there was a chance of getting Guardiola, Klopp or even Pochettino when he was at Southampton.

Could you imagine what they’d have done to our squad? All three teams are above us. And Wenger says he always does what is best for the club. Complete bullshit.

Crash Fistfight

Good luck in trying to get people to sign up to listening to more about this shit on Patreon.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Odd thing to say. Andrew Mangan doesn’t manage, coach, captain the team, nor own the club.

Mootilated

Hahaha

One Dennis Bergkamp

How is your comment related?

Blogs is one of the few forces keeping this club together by the way.

Lula

Harsh. I like the Arsenal community.

Jack4343

I’m thinking of signing up now actually. Who doesn’t love a little pitchfork talk?

Maniac

Nice to see Wenger trying to beat all the records this year – fewest clean sheets, worst away record, most goals conceded, worst league position, etc.

Jack

We are a laughing stock, Wenger won’t go until the end of the season and until then we are just going keep losing because nothing will change. I feel sorry for Auba coming to this turkey of a club.

ramgooner

What is this i feel sorry for Auba? I feel sorry for Lacazette?

Auba hasn’t come to Arsenal from Madrid. He’s from Dortmund who are in the same Europa league as us. It’s not like Dortmund are top of the table in Bundesliga.

Don’t chat shit because we lost. We don’t turn into a turkey club overnight.

HamiltonGunner

Feel sorry? Guy makes more in a week then 95% of people make in a year. Talk about having perspective. Sports in general are the Roman Gladiator games of our century.

Lula

I thought the players all looked really really grim. This manager situation just isn’t right on them either.

mrtanmay

Bet we were physically drained after a hectic week huh Arsene ?

yas

was playing 5 a side at finsbury park, mostly with arsenal fan; We could have stopped early to watch the match but no one actually wanted to. not that no one cares about arsenal. No one cannot be asked anymore. If people are still complaining about iwobi or xhaka or ramsey or kosch or mustafi you need to ask yourself would these guys be playing the same level at city/chelsea/united/liverpool as they are in arsenal? we have a systematic failure of what we have build over the last 2-3 years and no one but the management is at fault for… Read more »

Sank

We are damn f**ked.

What is the board still thinking. At any other club he would have been long gone.

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

“What is the board thinking”, you ask.

The board’s reply: “$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$”

Lula

Cackling in a gloomy castle atop a stormy dark mountain, l would think.

Atom

while it’s the least of our problems I am tired of Jack trying to show how much he cares by picking fights and playing dirty. He made no attempt to do anything but take the player out and came in high – it easily could have been a red card and left us with 10 for most of the game. I like that he has passion but he just crosses the line into stupidity far too often

ach

B-but muh barcelona game from decade ago, muh tottenham is shit chant, muh passiun

Sean Juba

Fuck off

Mesut

At least he’s trying. Ozil didn’t even give a sh*t. No contribution as usual.

Frank

Wouldn’t have made much difference and he was one of our better players today, strange to use this moment to have a go at him.

Atom

Jack was very poor today as was pretty much everyone – that sums up the past few games if not the entire year pretty much. No one including Jack is playing up to the standards required this year.

HamiltonGunner

So glad you said this. Our way of showing commitment to the cause is to play dirty and dangerous. Or to throw our hands in the air and moan at the referee. “Take the fall. Act hurt. Get indignant”.

Saint

A cargo ship would turn faster than Glenn Murray and we still couldn’t cope with him. Fucking terrible

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

Just as well Stepanovs wasn’t out there, they could have turned turning into their own personal duel.

Lula

That Mustafi foul right at the end when he had nowhere to go was really Mustafi.

Frankie

Let’s nt try polish a terd no more…. wenger has to go, I expect to lose against the top teams but this going down to relegation fodder is killing me……

Wenger do the decent thing and go and take Steve bold with you..

Come on you gunners

ritabhash

Another away game, another defeat. Sums it up.

Hard, hard times.
This team needs fresh impetus and ideas.

A Europa trophy is out of the question.

At this point, I’ll be thankful if Arsenal win against Milan. However, since this is the round of 16, I fully expect Arsenal of the past(and present) to kick in and meekly surrender so that we can go out in the Round of 16 like we usually do

Per

Great jobs lads! We’ll win 6-0 against Milan!

The_Golden_Wrigglesworth

Courtesy of a Welbeck double-hattrick.

GraeB

……. and then lose to Transylvania FC or some other Euro nonentity.

Memo from the board to Stan….. “a marked improvement on the last two matches”

Benriz

What does he have to do to lose his job? Seriously. This has to be it now. He must go! He could probably go and do a shit in the middle of the pitch and still not get fired. It’s bonkers!

The_Golden_Wrigglesworth

To be fair, that would be a significant improvement on recent performances.

Benriz

I’d love to hear whoever down voted me explain why they think Wenger should keep his job after this run of form!

Tas Gunner

Damn..never thought i will miss walcott and ox.no width or goal threat.i would rather have ox for iwobi and walcott for welbeck.yeah walcott doesnt give u much apart from finish, but thats it .he will score 7/10 chance.welbeck will foil 10/10 attaacks.never mind the chances..sad bench as well.and we are supposed to be title challengers.change is needed.at this rate i wont mind if its made before thursday.

Fireman Sam

That’s true. Just shows the problem wasn’t Ox or Theo or Olly.

It’s the fuckin mental prof who’s totally lost his marbles

kas

Theo was finished with Wenger when he dared tell the truth last season. ‘Palace wanted it more than us etc’ The old dictator won’t have people speaking there minds .

3 more months of this load of crap my fellow gooners. How is it possible to enjoy watching football? I’m thinking about ignoring the rest of the season, protect myself from going mad

It is curious how different fans have reacted. I’ve developed an unempirical and delusional insouciance to get me through.

Hi-brid

We need to take a perspective, we are low on confidence, we prepared in a serious way, Brighton is a team that fights for its life, etc, etc. Does anyone even need to say Wenger Out anymore?

Lula

All of us,sadly.

Jean Ralphio

No doubt that Wenger has to go. I just feel it will help the team and players if the club and Wenger announces it right now. It will lift a load of pressure off the players. Also, Welbeck, while I admire his determination, has to go. We need Lacazette back quick.

Jelvis

They shoot horses don’t they!

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

“You feed burgers to swans!”

Even Partridge makes more sense than that performance did.

loose_cannon

In the past this was the kind of game we’d look back on and say “if we picked up those points we’d have won the title”. Then it became the kind of game that would confirm we were out of the race altogether. Lately it’s been the kind of game where we then go on an unbelievable run and just about get top 4. Sadly nowadays it’s just a mid-table dead rubber.

Lula

We are looking like a Kroenke side.

GraeB

Be positive – next season it could be a relegation 6 pointer!

Axedsoul

Wonder what the team talk at half time was because we can surely do with more of it. For once I’m not upset that we lost. Agreed we played horribly throughout the first half but I absolutely loved how we came back in the second half. After ages I saw some grit and passion in the players. I fucking drooled over that challenge Kola made on Schelotto. I was sick of seeing our players limping around with drooped head and shoulders, the challenge, you may call it cynical and reckless, offered something different for a change. I also liked how… Read more »

Your Local Adonis, Richie Powling

drooped head and shoulders used to be an issue for Jason McAteer, and according to Roberto Mancini, “Jo’Art”…..not any more.

Gunnerlocutor

Sorry, but Kola’s “challenge” was absurd and very dangerous. He gave a fellow pro a concussion for no reason and should have been sent off, whether or not he intended to shoulder him in the face. Yes we need toughness but there is a limit and Arsenal should never play Pulisian tactics. We need a coach who can teach tactics though.

HamiltonGunner

Drooled over a dangerous and reckless challenge that could have ended Schellotto’s career? Really?

Paul

“Brighton got their first points from a top six club” sorry Brighton but with our form this year and before we are not a top six club. Well done anyway. 🙁

Benriz

Arsenal make a wish Foundation strikes again!

Jacksback

Did Wilshere deliberately throw that today. Could have taken pass from Kos and just left it and was never offering himself in second half – just hiding.

The first half was as bad as I think they’ve ever been, we were lucky not to be 4 or 5 down. I can handle players playing badly but when it looks like there feeling sorry for themselves and not putting in 100% then that’s tougher to take. Ozil’s body language when things are not going well is terrible and I’m not convinced we can play both him and Mkhitaryn at the same time – too similar. Yes!!Good loss. I am confident going into Milan now. The sooner we rule out the mathematical possibility for top 4 the better our Europa campaign will be.
The so called biggest club in England finished 6th last year under a manager who is supposedly world class yet the media will go on about Arsenal.

We’ll get through this period. COYG.

Please put Macey in goal. It is literally impossible for him to be a downgrade.

LuisBoaMuerte

YES! He’s looked excellent whenever I’ve seen him. Also 23, so if not now, when?

I’m not pissed off, I’m not angry, I just don’t feel anything anymore……and that’s the saddest part.

Lula

Agreed. I’m not completely numb yet. But it doesn’t bother me as much anymore. He needs to leave.

How did you know what the manager’s post – match interview would contain?
Your psychic powers are more intuitive than Shirley Ghostman and Derek Acorah combined…

Ozil is the most overpaid player in the history of football.

Let’s be loyal, I say give Arsene a 3 year extension. With perspective you can see the team is improving physically and psychologically. After all he has done so much for the club and deserves a lifetime job on the bench!

Sir Dimbleby IV

Well that wasn’t terribly swell.

Wenger should be given an ultimatum. Resign or your sacked. Put Bould in charge for rest of season, he must be itching to do ‘something’.

Kronkydonky

Unfortunately silent Stan couldn’t give a shit about the future of the club not while the dollars continue to roll in. Really Wenger should go now as should the top top class attitude players & Bould too. Seriously doubt where the club is heading even with a new boss?

Hubert Stroltz

I get it. I was in the east stand in 98 vs Everton. He’s the best manager we’ve ever had. But he’s doing a robert mugabe impersonation. His time is passed. ‘In the name of God go!’

Michael Bolton Wanderers

FFS we made Glenn Murray look like Harry Kane and their winger like Messi

To be fair to Izquierdo, he looks decent. Point taken about Murray though…and great user name.

American Gooner

I have stopped watching more Arsenal fixture this season than any other. The play is slow, disjointed, and individualistic. The manager looks resigned to a season without picking up another point home or away. Bould and Lehman must be suffering from apoplectic fits to watch this paper thin defense flap, dive, and wither against every variety of opposition. Long gone are the days of meaningful possession play and accurate passing. From all of the data that Wenger lauds for its value how is it he continues to play Xhaka and Mustafi without a modicum of support and Iwobi out on… Read more »

What’s your perspective on the Kroenkes?

Arsenal appear to be meandering down the same rabbit hole as the Rams and Nuggets, is that a fair assessment?

American Gooner

I haven’t ever been a follower of the NBA or NFL so take anything I mention with a grain of salt. That being said, the bizarre and often draconian rules and regulations which are present in both these leagues produce owners and ownership groups who are constantly involved in dubious, slimy, and or shady business practices. Profits are king, the fan experience is much lower down the list. Kroenke and his ilk are all cut from the same cloth, as long as their franchises are making money they don’t give the quality of the experience for the supporters or players… Read more »

Thanks for the insight. Here in Australia, the draft system exists for our bonkers game of Australian Rules Football. The same problems exist, and persist though. The cashed – up clubs with large fanbases and rogue owners find their way around the rules.

For what it’s worth, I’m (loosely speaking) a NY Jets fan, and aside from a brief spike in the mid – eighties (The Sack Exchange defensive line, Ken O’Brien / Freeman McNeil / Al Toon on offense), we’ve been absolute plop since Joe Namath won the Jets a Superbowl in the late sixties.

Meanwhile, the much more fashionable Giants have won stuff…so I get your point entirely.

Maybe but Arsenal have spent money in the last 3 to 4 years. Just mostly it has been spent incredibly badly
