Maitland-Niles gets new number as he pens Arsenal extension

Arsenal have confirmed that Ainsley Maitland-Niles has penned a new long-term deal with the club and will now wear the number 15.

Having made his first team debut as a 17-year-old in the Champions League in 2014, the Academy graduate enjoyed a breakthrough season during the last campaign making 28 appearances across a variety of positions including left-back, right-back and midfield.

Last summer he won the under-20 World Cup with England and he’s since gone on to feature for Aidy Boothroyd’s under-21s.

Much is expected of Maitland-Niles and he’ll no doubt be hoping to earn the trust of new coach Unai Emery having been afforded so many opportunities by Arsene Wenger.

It’s great to have such a promising talent nailed down for the foreseeable future. The ball now is very much in his court. Good luck Ainsley, we’re rooting for you.

great news. as much as i like new signings , having one of our own make the grade is brilliant.

AmericanGooner

And economical. ?

And_Unai_Said...

@AmericanGooner….Is that you Kroenke???

Damo Dinkum

Obviously it isn’t… he spoke!

Definitely, all this worrying about our midfield, when we have such a promising player already. Slick passer, top athlete, seems to have a real hunger to succeed, local lad. I think it’s time he be our 3rd or 4th midfield option after Xhaka, Ramsey, Elneny

Alex

\o/ Are u serious when u say something like that !!

Really, after Elneny. Are u blind ???

Elneny is just awful !!! He’s a marketing player for sell shirt in Africa and Middle East.

For me, Maitland-Niles is already better than Xhaka !!
Who disappear after the slightest pressing.

GFSammy

For what it’s worth… we arsenal fans in africa and the middle east aren’t fans because of elneny. But continue being silly anyway

Alex

Elneny is not bad but he doesn’t have the level for play in top 6 club.

Sorry, if i hurt u but he is really poor in game with this foot same if he s a good person with a good spirit.

Alex

I am not racist or something like that just read this articles and dares to tell me that it is not advantageous to have an Egyptian player when you have more than 2.5M supporters of this same nationality is more than those of English and French meets.

Same for Japeness, Coreen and American players.

Good news indeed.

Xhaka Demus, no Pliers

Great news. He has all it takes to be a top top player. I wonder will Emery use him more as a box to box CM or try get him to sit as a defensive CM? He has the physicality and ball skills to do either and hopefully we’ll see a lot more of him next season

LEFT08

Brilliant! Like the new number too. Very Parlor-esque.

Time to pop a MUM bottle

DB10s Air Miles

Oof… that’s a bit harsh.

D ceee

I get the thing about his mum. But what is a MUM bottle?

DB10s Air Miles

Champagne.

D ceee

Great news.
Not totally convinced Wenger really aided his development though. Playing him wherever seemed convenient. Hope Emery has more of a plan in place for him. He excelled as a box to box at Ipswich

D ceee

I don.t mean that to sound as harsh as it may do. I.m sure Arsene helped him a lot, especially in terms of dealing with being a first team player and all the hype and associated problems. I just think playing him in a more settled role and more regularly would have helped him further

D ceee

For example..why after winnning motm at manure did he not play again?

Wenger's Smirk

Please. Stop. You’re not helping yourself!

D ceee

News Hound can we have a foto of you please? I.m always wondering who this spectacle wearing beardie is

Jack

Like a new signing.

Congratulations Ainsley. I’m sure you are gonna win loads of trophies with us, you are one of us and we are in this together. Don’t stop working hard, the future is definitely bright for you. Good luck.

Very encouraging news, for as much as I enjoy signing players, developing our own, to the level required, is even better.
Now hurry up and sort out that Reiss Nelson contract and why you’re at it, Vlad Dragomir and Josh Dasilva.

Maitlan Niles is a great talent, next up is Nelson and Nketiah.
