Unai Emery has called on Aaron Ramsey to focus his attention on delivering the goods on the pitch amid ongoing negotiations about a contract extension.
The Gunners want the Wales international to extend his decade-long stay at the Emirates and have thus far resisted the temptation to cash in on him despite knowing he’ll be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January and can walk away for free next July.
“I only need his focus on training, the matches and on his performance each day,” Emery told journalists asking for an update on the 27-year-old.
He added: “I don’t know [if he lacks focus], but I am thinking in the present.
“I spoke with him last week but now, today, my focus is on the match and I want the player to be focused only on Saturday.”
Ramsey started the Gunners first game of the season but was substituted in the second half and found himself on the bench at Stamford Bridge until the last 20 minutes. Having been a favourite of Arsene Wenger, it’s a real change of circumstances for the Welshman.
That said, it’s up to him to persuade the new regime he’s worthy of minutes…and indeed a new big bucks contract.
There are suggestions that Mesut Ozil may miss today’s game with West Ham with illness, that would open the door again for Rambo. Here’s hoping he can make an impression.
Tell him to sign, be happy he’s with us for the next few years and has a chance to be a legend rather than someone like RVP who did well for us then left for money, with all Arsenal fans thinking less of him.
Then enjoy playing.
Like it or not, RvP left to win a title medal and did just that. I suspect it’s more than enough compensation for what some Arsenal fans may think of him.
If we’d have had his 30 goals that season we probably would have won the PL.

With the best will in the world, RVP was contributing a lot more than Ramsey has recently. You need to think back to 2013 for consistency.
I would like him to stay, but am quite relaxed about it. I’m sure there will be others to fill the gap if he decides to go and we shouldn’t end up panicking and giving another Ozil sized contract.
Ozil and his ‘ilnesses’
It happens too often, i start to doubt it to be fair. We invest 350k/week just for this BS.
The sheer insanity of that contract beggars belief more and more, with each passing week.
This is a very gifted player who turns up about one game in three, if we’re lucky. Ramsey – for example – does far more. Indeed most of the squad, in terms of application, do far more.
Tell him to sign it or don’t. It can’t be that hard to establish what you want vs what’s offered.
Once a decision is made he can focus on being his best for us or putting himself in the shop window
Ozil would appear to have a really weak immune system.
He’s not nearly as good as he thinks he is, this is a huge wake-up call after his years of being Arsenes favourite and being in the team when he really didn’t deserve to be. Personally, I think we should have sold him in the summer and replaced him with someone better, now his value will be less or he’ll go for free. We’ve thrown away a fortune in the last year just because Arsene didn’t have the guts to sell players when we should have done. Other clubs don’t mess around, they let go and replace, and we need… Read more »
Are you really still blaming Arsene for the club not selling him in the summer?
Who are all these players that Wenger should have sold? He cleared out quite a few
I don’t think he’s the type of midfielder that fits our new system and our midfield has lacked balance when he plays for several years now. He’s a great player if used correctly but as I say he just doesn’t seem to fit with ozil. I’d bite the bullet and sell him now to avoid a drawn out contact situation and see if emery and Co. can pull another one out the bag in the January transfer window (maybe a winger! ).
Am undecided over Ramsey….
Personally, I don’t like begging players to sign after perdition and they still refused, let them leave and we get some cash from their sales to fund another better player.
Well the issue with Ramsey is Wenger allowed him to run down his contract (he really should have been sold last year or signed a new deal then) as we are in a situation where we have a potentially key player (if he can learn discipline) under a new coach who can leave on a free at the end of the year. We won’t be able to sell Ramsey really for anything this winter as teams can sign him on a free in the summer in the PL or in the winter if foreign.
Bang average player. Move him on in January.
Yes, Özil cheats, he is not sick, he has never been, he just wants cash and no effort, he is lazy, unwilling to work with us, sell him for God’s sake.
Ok, you’re happy, guys, i said it all or more has to be said?
Now maybe we can talk football or?
Have you any other inside information about players. I assume you’ve see the medical reports as you are so sure.
Why is Ozil always sick??? Not that I think he warrants a starting place with his inconsistency…. But he really is a waste of space. Rambo is a really top player, the problem is his injuries: He comes back from injury It takes him a few games to get going He hits his stride Then he breaks down again… And that’s the story of Aaron Ramsey in an Arsenal shirt. Hopefully the medical department can put a stop to this cycle? and he signs a new deal…. But if that doesn’t happen? I won’t be too disappointed… just wish the… Read more »
anyone know a good app to stream the games on please?
TVTAP or Mobdro.
These are for Android devices
Did well today Ramsey. Big (and correct) call to leave Ozil out. As mentioned, both Ozil and Ramsey play the same function practically. I thought Rambo brought instantly more energy to us both pressing and going forward. Great mazy run on the byline, also good effort from edge of box which Fabianski had to turn around. Big positive. If Ozil continues to be in a funk, Ramsey should start. Should Ozil continue not to earn his wages, then sell him summer and get Ramsey to commit. Both Mhki and Ozil are 30+ now so it makes sense to keep the… Read more »
