Emery: Time to get back to winning ways

Unai Emery says it’s time his team got back to winning ways having drawn their last three Premier League games, and with just one win in five.

Although the Gunners remain unbeaten in all competitions for 16 games, victories have been short on the ground in recent weeks, and a trip to 6th placed Bournemouth will provide a real challenge on Sunday.

With Chelsea and Sp*rs facing off on Saturday evening, Arsenal could go into Sunday’s encounter 6 points off the top four, adding a bit more pressure, and the head coach knows how important it is get the momentum going again.

“Good afternoon,” he said. “After the international break of two weeks, the last match here was a draw against Wolverhampton.

“We are okay, 16 matches where we haven’t lost, but also, in the last three matches we’ve drawn.

“Our ambition is to take another victory, but we know it is very difficult in each match.

“We need to prepare for a big match on Sunday in Bournemouth. Now they are behind us by four points and we are playing there on Sunday.

“I think they are a good team, a young coach but a very good coach with his small experience but very big experience.

“I know Bournemouth and they are a very prepared team with tactically good movement on the pitch and with a big intensity with each player and when they are playing there, we know it is very difficult.

“But we need to prepare well, we need every player with a big mentality to fight strongly there against them, with our quality but above all, with a big intensity and a big mentality in the 90 minutes.”

Yess emery, fighting talk!

Pedant

Yes please. A win would be great leading into lots of matches in December.

Hope guys like Mikhitarian will bring a decisive contribution this time.

SharpasFc

Scoring a goal to get us a point last time was pretty decisive!

Teryima Adi

We really need a win.

“EMERY: TIME TO GET BACK TO WINNING WAYS” Easy to say but hard to do. Our problem is that we look so dodgy at the back. We give away far too many chances and always look likely to concede a goal. If we beat Bournemouth it will be something like 3-2. Not good enough. After about a third of the way through the season, now is a good time to take stock and look at where we are. Up front we are in a pretty decent state: we have two quality strikers, and with the creativity of Ozil, Mkhitaryan and… Read more »

Our performance needs to be at a much higher level than it has been, we’ve been mainly very fortunate during this unbeaten run.
Emery is still searching for the right formula, which is understandable as he’s new and inherited a very lopsided squad.
I’d like to see Maitland Niles given a run playing in front of Bellerin, Iwobi is more suited playing on the left, and playing Ozil + Mkhitaritan together is risky, when it clicks it’s a thing of beauty… But it more often than not just stinks the place out.

How is Welbeck doing? He is my favorite player on the team. I pray he gets better soon and comes to join his colleagues. Go Arsenal! Let’s win this for Welbeck!

myrtle

Yes. This is exactly the sort of game Welbeck is so useful for. I hope we don’t slip up.

I think this game is the first must win game of Emery’s term. We’ll know the outcome of the sp*rs Vs Chelsea match by the time we play so a win is the only way to put pressure on both of them. Anything less is a failure.

Not sure I would categorize this as a “must win”. Bournemouth are no push overs, and remember, it’s still only 12 games in. My own opinion is that this entire season is a learning experience for the team and I am not expecting a win every time. I WANT the win, but I wont be full of vitriol if we don’t get it.

Santori

Sim p liston to blame defense only as our issue.

We should have also scored more goals last 3 games we shipped draws instead.

At very least apart from the Liverpool game, we should have banked the extra 4 points.

We need to beat Bournemouth.

And that means finding that killer instinct up front again.

Chidi

Gosh his English is way better already. Impressive!
Eddie Howe’s team can be frightening on their day, especially at their home. It’s gonna be a really close one. High scoring me thinks. Head’s going for a 2-2 draw but heart’s calling a 2-3 win for mi beloved gunners ??…?

Goonerink

I’m not saying it will factor in too much but temps have dropped heavily recently which does affect teams physically.
Hope lucas can adapt and mesut stays indoors Alot!

It brings the best out of athletes because the lower temperatures mean they don’t get weary quickly and their conditioning helps them sustain a suitable tempo.
