Bernd Leno says he doesn’t know why there’s such a big discrepancy between Arsenal’s form at the Emirates and their results on the road.
The Gunners have the third-best record at home, taking 44 points from 17 games and scoring 39 goals along the way. However, after Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Everton, our sixth away loss in the league, our record away continues to look appalling. Nine sides have recorded more than the 19 points we’ve amassed from 15 games.
Given four of our remaining six games are away, it’s hard to play down the situation, although Leno, speaking to Sky Sports, gave it a go.
“To be honest, I don’t know,” he reflected when asked why we look a shadow of ourselves the moment we leave N5.
“But we’re still in a good position and in a good atmosphere. Losing one game is not a problem.
“We have to keep going, keep working hard and play our style because we’re still in a good moment.”
Unai Emery said that his side lacked balance between attack and defence in both halves at Goodison Park. Our keeper seemed to suggest that Phil Jagielka’s early goal was particularly important.
“It was a disappointing result,” he continued. “We played OK but we didn’t have many chances to score. We conceded an unlucky goal at the beginning of the game from a throw-in and it was difficult to play against a deep defence.
“The early goal was much better for Everton. If the game stayed 0-0 for longer it would have been much easier for us.
“In the second half, Everton had some chances after transitions, but we have to improve to play against deep defences and create chances, because I think the next game against Watford will be the same.”
A psychologist needed maybe?
Or a miracle
Call the Arse whisperer!
Someone had better find out soon or we can kiss a top four finish goodbye. Bernd says, “Losing one game is not a problem.” It certainly is if it confirms our terrible away record, and particularly if there are another four away games to come. Sorry, Bernd, there’s a massive problem, it’s not new, and we’re nowhere near sorting it out – whether you’re all in a “good moment”, or not!
Acually it’s good he said its not a problem because we still have a good chance and i’m sure if we win against watford it’s gonna go our way in the remaining matches they just need to cut out the needless mistakes and that sloth-speed build up. Oh and mustafi should never play again he’s just horrible even when he does something right
No real surprise, was it? Our away form has been dreadful all season. Luckily, I didn’t see the game but I gather we were awful.
We missed a great chance to put real pressure on the others.
At this stage of the season, a real fan will see the game, no matter what, unless there is a family emergency. If you had one, I apologize and wish you all the best.
Yeah, you don’t know, so shut up.
You shut up, you noisome P.O.S.
I wish I had not seen that, left me irritated, agitated, and generally questioning my life decisions regarding following Arsenal. By the end of the month I would not be surprised to find us out of Europe and out of the top four, at this point I’m hoping for 2 of the other 3 teams chasing the top 4 to suffer their own collapse of form. I just don’t understand how the team can play so well in some games and so poorly in others. Last night it looked like they were playing walking football, where you are not allowed… Read more »
A horrible performance and we can only blame ourselves, but why Zouma’s tackle on Laca at the beginning wasn’t a penalty? Sure laca was able to pass the ball before the tackle, but it was still an obvious and quite bad foul on the box. Regarding our away-form, top4 is going to be tough. I was pretty confident before this, but now I remember how bad we can be away. Trying to be positive: A good result against Napoli, Xhaka, Torreira and Kos back, some serious work from Emery and his staff, and we could be a different team at… Read more »
We played badly because we were too committed to playing from the back , they knew it and harassed us, we couldn’t go forward with confidence. If they send too many players forward , then we outnumber them in midfield and Leno must then do a long kick. The flexibility will make them nervous to commit players forward, which then releases pressure when we do play from the back.
First off.
More brave selections/tactics are needed away from home. We need to have at least two players who can retain and cycle the ball positively under pressure. The 10mins of Aaron Ramsey’s introduction showed what forward thinking can do for us.
We need a cazorla/doucoure/pogba/matic/almiron/dendonker/Bernardo Silva. A deft playmaker and a athletic dribbler box 2 box type
There’s no reason.
We don’t exhibit the hunger to go and do damage to the other side.
far too casual with the ball in the final application which is particularly galling after hard work to work it up to the top.
AMN also examplifies the overly casual approach today.
We haven’t got anything done yet this season. Gaffer needs to light a fire up these players’ arses if we are to stand a chance achieving somehting this season.
I’m still abd always will be big Wenger fan but this has got to be his doing!
It’s the back five conservative tactics. We’re a man short in midfield. The link up play from back to front is missing, and the extra man in midfield isn’t there to defend in transition.
In other words, quit being afraid to attack on the road. The tactics have been the same all season and the results are shit.
They disturbed our link up play because they know our goalie seldom does a long kick. If the goalie mixes it up more, other teams will be hesitant to commit players that far forward and we will have more time to play out from the back and link up.
Actually, the tactics at the beginning of the season were different up until the Bournemouth game. Funnily enough, our away form wasn’t bad up until that point. Also funnily enough, the best away performance we’ve had since Bournemouth came against Tottenham when we also didn’t play a back 3. Personally I don’t think we’ve played that well recently even when we’ve won using the formation, especially with both Laca and Auba up front. Quite frankly, I can’t stand the formation. Unfortunately we’ve got no decent right back with Bellerin out, and the only left back options we have are only… Read more »
i’ll tel you why because your manger doesn’t know how to select a proper starting lineup, he being a conservative bozo, same the conservatism fort the start of the year we are in no position to put the breaks on, we need to go balls out and stack for the get go, the 2nd half was much improved we’re we dominated ball possession but at that point everton had 11 at the back no breaking through
