Arsenal went out of the Carabao Cup at Anfield last night, losing 5-4 to Liverpool on penalties after a crazy 5-5 draw in normal time.

Think at times Saka was a bit shellfish.

Willock had ideas above his crustacean.

We really felt the pinch of bringing off Ozil.

James has a lobster on his jumper.

Sorry, I just get annoyed that we are langoustine 5th place in the league.

“James has a lobster on his jumper.”
A little lower and it would seem its claws are pinching his nips.

That Ozil assist for the 4th goal was as good as winning the cup. Very few players in the world can come up With that pass in that amount of time….amazing….I will go watch our 4th goal again.

That goal was down to the pressing of AMN something that is unfortunately not in Ozils locker. Yes a deft touch but wouldn’t have happened otherwise and if I get asked should your no 10 tackle or press I never saw DB10 shirk his responsibility. The team needs his creativity and a fully focused Ozil not the arm waving spoilt child that appears more often than not.

Agree with all of that, but tbf to Ozil he pressed well last night. Klopp will have second thoughts next time he considers playing Lallana as a DM again, Ozil gave him an especially hard time. If Ozil can play with that intensity consistently he’ll be a lock for the starting 11.

Oh boy! It seems nothing Özil does can ever please his haters who come with preconceived theories on “what he didn’t do that he should have done” – even though 3 of the 5 goals came literally as a result of his genius moves, one of them being tracking back, winning the ball deep in our half, carrying it forward and finding Saka, worked his ass off carrying the team forward and dictating the tempo, on top of a world class assist for the 4th goal.

Which match were you watching?

Yes he had a good match but up against kids and bench warmers. He needs to do it week in and not when he feels like it.

Martinelli reminds me of the Brazilian Ronaldo. He smells goals, is quick, can dribble, head the ball, press, intercept, tackle, intelligent, composed, just relentless overall. He’s going to become world class. Weird saying this but I already think he’s ready to replace Laca if needed. Absolute beast and amazing from Edu to snip him from the lower leagues.

Still very much helter skelter.

Understandably it was a mixed team we put out but considering Liverpool were carrying a very youthful (apart from Milner) defense, we should have done somewhat better.

Positives but also negatives –

1) Leno – I thought he has been in general good with decision making on distribution. Where I feel he isn’t as strong in in penalties. Only went the right way once. Improvement to be made.

2) Bellerin – Generally an OK shift but expect more of our captain in weeks to come.

3) Mustafi. You may say he had a Mustafi moment and it was a poor moment where it all went wrong whatever he was trying to do with the clearance. BUT got into the game and put in a huge amount of headed clearances.

4) Holding – Turned too easily by Origi (this has been his weak point. A dangerous errant pass. Otherwise fairly solid if pulled out of position a number of times.

5) kolasinac – Good and bad. Pulled around but I think he also picked up a knock. NO worse than Bellerin

6) Torreira – He’s good nipping at people but I’m not sure he can provide us anymore control on a game. This will have to of course be worked on between all midfielders to get better relationships going particularly on the ball and working in the tight confines in the middle of the park plus how they press in conjunction with front and back line.

7) Willock – Thought he was usual energetic and when switched to more forward role by Emery following Ozil’s withdrawal, he bagged us a brilliantly taken goal. This is the issue he is a young player and we should NOT be reliant on him. He is a BONUS for us.

8) Ozil – I copuld never understand the people who want to so quickly get rid of him. As I mentioned in the summer, we did not need to sell him bc we had restructured the wages.

And as an asset despite his limitations, better to have him than not. Now the question is how Unai can utilise him to maximum reward for the team. He doesn’t need to play him all game just for impact perhaps. This is where I feel fans who are agitating for Ozil have a point.

But there is no bad man management here. ozil has been involved in training throughout and the gaffer has starved him enough to get some hunger out of the German. Hope we reap its reward.

9) Saka – Got involved several times right through the game but like winger on other side, needed to be back supporting fullback and we never really had full partnerships on both side materialise.

10) AMN – Better application and good athletic ability to steal in for the goal. BUT some poor habits again thereafter to let the Ox steal in front of him. So a mix bag still. His casualness is his strength and greatest weakness.

11) Martinelli – Star man for me on our side. Tireless work. Good instincts and always trying to link. I fear Lacazette may not stay past the summer and this signing was as much a hedge against it.

bearing that in mind, we have an excellent cover developing. I thought last summer we were always going to bring a wild card in likely up top and this is it.

12) Guendouzi – Brought on as much to try and control the game for us more but we never really got it and how we cannot finish a game or see it through its dying ambers is beyond me. Several times, we opted to punt it long no nonsense but that is as much an admission we do not have the confidence in midfield to control the ball. There aren’t enough calm heads but we have fundamentally not addressed a shortfall in midfield as much as we have added nothing at Cback last summer that strengthens us from the season before.

13) Cebellos – Ditto. He has tidy feet but it isn’t Santi. He is more a ramsey (temporary) replacement at best. we have still yet to find someone who can control the game for us in midfield.

14) Tierney. Not much more and really in to cover Kolasinac. Their equalising goal in end of stoppage time coming from his flank but more to do with inexperience from Xhaka then Bellerin not spotting the danger.

Still would have preferred more control of the game and maybe Tierney’s energy level could have been used to take the ball down the left and keep it in their half instead.

Gaffer – I don’t know if he he knows what to think of it all. Such a messy game on both sides but I think in the cold light of day, this is always a secondary competition at best for us and given squad frailties, we need to reserve our efforts for FA, Europa and League.

So actually getting dumped out IMO a blessing in disguise.
