Arsenal draw Newcastle in FA Cup 3rd Round

Arsenal’s quest for a 15th FA Cup will start with a home tie against Newcastle United.

The match will be played at the Emirates at some point across the 8th to 11th January. Given our status as holders, you’d expect us to be on the box.

We’ve played three FA Cup finals against the Geordies. We lost in 1932 and 1952 and won in 1998.

More recently we’ve beaten them 3-0 in the cup in 2008 and 2002.

Non premier league games are something to look forward to in these times 🙂

Ye, when someone else is playing, this is just added stress

what date are we playing?

Paul Roberts

Feb 30th mate

Another tough game which we’ll be lucky to come through as winners.

Naked Cygan

We had tough games last season and ended up winning the cup. atleast we are playing at home and not against a team called Marine.

I’d argue that we were in far better form back then. Let’s hope the good form somehow comes back soon.

Licor de Avellanas

I know a French lady called Marine. She’s gorgeous 😍

Cranky Colin

Are you thinking of Marina?…… Aqua Marina?

Paul Roberts

Is that you Troy??

Cranky Colin

Fair play to ya Paul R!

Marine Le Pen wears lipstick but she’s still a sow

True, but I don’t think we’re quite in the same place this season, are we? A cup represents our only chance of a trophy, and we are defending this one, so that may well be a positive. On the other side, let’s hope we find our scoring boots. Four shots on target, with one goal, in the two most recent PL games play isn’t exactly cup tie winning form either.

Naked Cygan

True, but I have faith in our cup/europa team beating Newcastle, no confidence in our first team. I think our 2nd team would beat our first team ar this rate.

Cranky Colin

Good stuff.
By that point we will have Saka/Balogun/Martinelli upfront.
God love the Toons

Cranky Colin

Oh, yeah…… and ESR pulling de strings

Overmars and Anelka with Romf running the show. ❤

Viv the 🐐

Romf? And why Anelka? What is he doing now by the way? Just asking.

Anders Limpar

98 cup final scorers and you know who the Romford Pele is. Not the last cup final he was bloody brilliant in.

1998 FA Cup Final – Arsenal 2 Newcastle 0. Goals from Overmars and Anelka. And the Romford Pele (that’s Ray Parlour) still running box to box in injury time on a boiling hot day. Parlour deservedly got Man of the Match but England boss Hoddle got all upset about Ray’s comedic one liner to ‘faith healer’ Eileen Drewery and refused to select him for the England ‘98 World Cup squad. Legend has it that Hoddle arranged for Ms Drewery to bestow her healing hands powers on the England players by individual appointments at the England training ground. When it was… Read more »

Romf = Raymundo Parlour I do believe.
Anelka scored so maybe that’s why.

With our current form in mind we are likely to have our arses handed to us by Newcastle.

The Premiership is mad this year maybe we should not lose our shit so quickly? #Straws

The FA Cup is now massively important to us. It looks like we’ll fail to finish in a European place in the Premier League so the cup competitions my be our only route into Europe next season.

That’s why Arteta will have to play a strong team against Newcastle.

First we should worry about getting the best out of the squad we have and then about European football. In fact not having any mid week football will be of help for this squad.

No! We need the money!

So Callum Wilson is going to the 1st player to score a hattrick of over-head kicks then?

A draw feels like a win these days.

Dammit. We need AW’s expertise in here to rejuvenate the team. Even his last season is much better than the treacle play we have to suffer now.

And fark the WOB like Cuntington, Fats et al.

You’ve obviously forgotten a lot of AW’s last season especially the part where we lost 4-2 to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup!

I am having a FA cup fatigue

After seeing how Marine FC played on Sunday, that would have been an experience for our players. Maybe they’d be a bit humbled seeing how much some team put into a game.
