Arsenal Youth preview – U23s take on Blackburn

Arsenal U23s will be looking to finally secure their first victory of the season tonight when they face their Blackburn Rovers counterparts away.

Steve Bould’s side have struggled for cohesion so far this campaign, with a host of players loaned out, several players brought in and U18s often having to step up.

Tonight they taken on a Blackburn side that are fourth in the table with three wins in their last five games.

Connor McBride, who has five goals in as many appearances, is the main player to be wary of in the Blackburn side.

As far as Arsenal are concerned, it can be almost impossible to predict starting lineups for the U23s at times, with players constantly moving between squads, but Bould can welcome back goalkeeper Karl Hein after suspension.

The likes of Salah-Eddine, George Lewis, Ryan Alebiosu and Jonathan Dinzeyi will all be assessed as they have been out injured recently, but Folarin Balogun should be available after he didn’t feature for the first-team against Molde last night.

There could be a debut for Joel Ideho, the talented winger recently signed from Ajax, with the 17-year-old having been an unused substitute against Liverpool last week.

Arsenal have really lacked width at this level so far this season, so Ideho could help to improve matters in that regard.

Miguel Azeez could also have a major part to play, with his passing being of a very high standard, although he still needs to improve defensively.

Joseph Olowu is back from his loan spell at Cork City and the centre-back could be available as Arsenal are short of options at the heart of the defence.

Regarding first-team players, William Saliba could get another runout, while Emile Smith Rowe is another possible candidate for involvement.
