Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 37: Arseblog Exclusive Interview with Leah Williamson

Welcome to a brand new episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, the number one podcast about Arsenal Women.

On this episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast we deal with the two big announcements at Arsenal Women this week. Firstly, we have an exclusive interview with Arsenal defender Leah Williamson about her decision to extend her contract, her Arsenal legacy, her reassurance at the direction of the club and her recent injury.

Then we get into the news that the Gunners have signed Swedish forward Stina Blackstenius. Tim talks to Swedish football analyst and journalist Mia Eriksson about Blackstenius’ career to date, her qualities and how she might fit in with “Eideball.”

As the downturn in form has had much to do with Leah’s absence, her contract extension is a great boost to morale not just for the second half of this season.
The other signings are also a tonic both immediate and longer term since although Leah’s return is critical, she cannot cure the defensive frailties alone and Stina’s physicality may bring some much needed strength to the high press tactics.

I will not happy until we sign a world class CB to be paired with Leah. I hope Tierna Davidson [left footed] tall, quick, same style as Leah. PERFECT COMBO. But in short term remaining second half of the season, at least one quick CB. I can’t rely on slow turtle CB like Beattie to defend anymore. And she always makes a clumsy pass in front of our own box.

Thanks Tim for another great pod. Came into January hoping we’d sign a new CB. Stina, Laura and possibly Souza will make for a very good window. Then address the midfield in the summer when there are more options available for transfer.
