Arsenal beat FC Nurnberg 5-3 in pre-season friendly (+ goal clips)

Gabriel Jesus marked his non-competitive debut for Arsenal with two goals as the Gunners ran out 5-3 winners over FC Nurngberg this afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side went in 2-0 down at the break, but the Brazilian got one back within minutes of the restart, before Mohamed Elneny leveled the scores with a long-range screamer.

Two own goals made the score 4-2, the German side got another, before Jesus grabbed his second with 15 minutes to play, flicking in smartly at the near post.

The game ended 5-3, Kieran Tierney got a first half run out as he continues his comeback from knee surgery, and there was a sighting of new signing Marquinhos also.

Goals

Jesus 2-1

Elneny 2-2

Jesus 3-5

Give youth a chance

That starting 11 looked like a shop window.

Great to see Jesus hot the ground running 1 minute after he came on

Alan Sunderland

Buy one get one free.

Moore

He has started scoring…welcome Jesus

Mick Malthouse

Was Tierney a tactical substitution or is he injured? Hearing differing reports.

Parteylikeits2001

Saw them saying he was doing a warm down at half time, so it looked like it was planned for him to do 1 half only.

Vieraera

KT’s injury scare is troubling. Nothing disrupted our momentum and probably cost us a top 4 finish last season like his sudden absences thru injury. Arteta needs to sign another top quality LB (not a deputy) as a matter of urgency!

Funsho Patrick

Same for a minimum of two midfielders…I repeat…we got overrun in midfield by some mid table teams…5matches stand out for me… Newcastle away, Brighton and crystal palace home and away
..that was the difference between us and Chelsea….when partey and xhaka don’t turn up there’s never a plan B…we just bend over..

flash

we really need to sign reliable left back cover. losing Tierney (and tomi) last season hurt us so much. id love for the zinchenko rumors to resurface personally…

Alan Sunderland

Like zinchenko as well, can put Tierney and xhaka under pressure for their starting spot.

Jim

So did he have another set back?

chepetin

Tactical. Arteta said afterwards that the plan was for him to play 30 minutes and that he’s good.

BigFatnUgly

The Handwerker in the oppo team lol

doug

Refreshing to see a striker score goals. If he can keep that up all season I like our chances

myrtle

Wow refreshing indeed, that was like a cold shower on a hot day. So good to see a striker who actually moves across his man and takes shots. He looks sharp as a knife, I’m buzzing.

kampala gooner

Friendly and all but that was some sly finishing by no.9.

Nketibag

Don’t think I’ve seen an Arsenal striker make a near post run for 18 months. So, so good to see.

Ozzie

Elneny hates tap-ins.

Funsho Patrick

😂 credit to his staying power..who else noticed the improvement in his forward passing at the end of the season?

Goonshow

(in the style of any South American commentator):
“Mooooooooooooooo o o o o o o o o – NENNY!!!!!!

Mkh

He celebrated like its a last-min goal in a final!

Ben

Too bins guy, that man!

Ben

FILIP LINDHOLM HANSEN

Jesus/Nketiah combination looks exciting

Flash

Just like the Martinelli/Jesus combination.
Also Saka is quite good at short passing…
Plus: there is that Odegaard kid…

Exciting times! 🙂

Hope there are similar thoughs running through Gnabry’s mind.

Arseholemio

Jesus what a finisher. To be serious nr 9 knows where the goal is and he will score if his teammates creates. A really good signing.

A pretty fun preseason game with no defensive ambition at all 😄

I keep shouting for Elneny and Xhaka to shoot a lot more so let’s hope Eleney continues and Xhaka watched today. They both have really hard and well aimed shots. Partey on the other hand… 🙃

2highbury

Loving the exuberant celebrations in the stands.

If you look quickly one guy is clearly in the middle of a series of strong man poses. 🧐

Jelvis

I think he’s The neighbour!

Jelvis

Or at least a descendent of The neighbour.

assistantref

Did they really plan to give Tierney only 30 minutes? I really hope so because the alternative is not good…

gooner

They were running away with a cricket score at half time until Artera unleashed Jesus and Muhammed on them. Absolutely no chance then on

Toni

This goes down as one of the best comments I’ve read in a long while.

Gunner J

Nice

AlexNuggz

Bravo

Goonshow

A veritable crusade of goals reigned down upon them.

assistantref

Breaking news, Arsenal linked with shock move for Victor Moses.

Graeb

No need for Moses, we’ve got angel Gabriel x 3

PeteyB

Then we would buy his brother max aarons too!

ArseRevelation

Jesus scores, Mohammed scores, Divine performance 😊

goonerink

why no clips of joint top scorer own goal?

both were very much forced errors and deserve credit!

YoungGun

Yea, that starting eleven had alot of players who need to be sold. The one thing I noticed other than Jesus doing his thing is the change of pushing Lokonga to the left while letting Elneny be the lone 6 with AMN at the right. I like this personally because I really don’t see Lokonga as a 6/backup for Partey he doesn’t seem his best there. The best game he had was with AMN when they were interchanging. He is more of a Xhaka backup and we need another midfielder to play that position . Hope Arteta has worked that… Read more »

Steveysimpson

Backup for Party!!!! We may need a replacement + another, if the stories are true!!!

Mayor McCheese

That first half, though, was a real trial at times. A Nuremberg trial.

Funsho Patrick

😄

Goonshow

Was waiting for that… glad someone managed not to disappoint.

Henkamp

I love the look of Charlie Patino. The conviction in his touches and maturity in the way he moves with the ball tells me we have a serious GEM on our hands. Hope he fulfills his potential.

Tasmanian Jesus

Mo! What a rocket!

Goonshow

Moooooooo o o o o o o o oaaaaallllllll l!!!!

Jon Petro

Where saliba?

Vaibhav

Nuno anyone?

Chuck Felsea

Wasn’t he part of the international games after the end of the season? In that case I guess he is still on holiday.

Sheldon

Lukonga looked so much better when he moved to the left 8. Don’t think he is a DM.

Graham

I agree. His ball carrying ability is 90+ percentile

Goonshow

Yes, it was a friendly.
Yes, it was Nurnberg.
Yes, we conceded some really soft ones.
But…

How bloody scrotum-shrinkingly good was it to see a STRIKER scoring STRIKER’s goals from STRIKING positions???

This can only bode well… the lad is razor sharp and clearly out to prove a point with serious killer instincts.

GET IN THERE MY SON!

Chuck Felsea

What we shouldn’t forget is that Nürnberg start their season next weekend, so they are 3 weeks ahead in preparations compared to us.

Damian

Not sure why they took Jesus headed goal off him and changed to OG. Deserved his hat trick. Also he cleverly protected the 5th goal in, so in my book was influential in 4. Props to Nketiah too who hit the bar and linked well. Game changed at HT when Elneny joined midfield

Goonerink

Cause the defender kicked it and not Jesus?

Regardless I think they should award own goals like that to the striker in the same way they give deflection goals to the striker if it was on target before the deflection.

Three Steps Sideways

Elneny struck that from way back in the Middle Kingdom, and it’s still travelling. What a strike.

jw1

Later had another– from further yet– tipped away too!

TotsOfJack

Finally a striker. Not a forward. A striker.

(arYse)

Welcome Jesus I hope you can help Arsenal survive though lent, you were definitely needed last lent.

Quentin Quarantino

Biblical levels of goals incoming…
