Arsenal confirm squad for USA tour, Cozier-Duberry included

Young winger Amario Cozier-Duberry has been included in Arsenal’s squad for the tour of the United States but several senior players are staying in London.

New signings Jurrien Timber, Kai Havertz and Declan Rice were among the 27 players who boarded the plane for Washington DC this afternoon with two more, Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey, expected to join the squad next week.

The trip marks a huge opportunity for 18-year-old Cozier-Duberry who is the only representative of the club’s academy. Even though they featured against FC Nurnberg on Thursday, Ethan Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Reuell Walters will stay at London Colney ahead of a training camp in Spain with the under-21s.

The other players who remain behind include keeper Arthur Okonkwo, Cedric Soares, Nicolas Pepe, Nuno Tavares, Sambi Lokonga and Reiss Nelson.

Five of those six are likely to leave the club this summer, either on loan or permanently, but Nelson has just signed a new contract so it’s possible he has an injury.

Having spent the summer playing for his country, Matt Turner is on holiday. He may well join up with his teammates later.

The Gunners will play three friendlies while in the US.

On Thursday we face MLS All-Stars at Audi Field Stadium, then it’s Manchester United at the MetLife Stadium in New York on Saturday before a jaunt to Los Angeles for a clash with Barcelona at SoFi Stadium on 27 July.

No Partey??

Man Manny

Did you read the article?

Kentish Gooner

No Pauly.

Tankard Gooner

Partey not part of the squad?

Kentish Gooner

Read the article.

Eminho

I Hope partey stays. Why he is coming next week?

Bongogooner

Cedric will still manage to be on the pictures

Luton Gooner

What’s the latest with Patino? I know there was rumours of him leaving but I assumed they were clickbait. The ethos of Arsenal is to keep talented academy players, usually at all costs (see Nelson, Saka and Eddie)

I hope he stays but it doesn’t look promising.

Johnny 4 Hats

Man, why aren’t we bringing Nwaneri and MLS?

I get it with Patino. He’s going to leave. But I’d leave Runarsson and Trusty home for those lads. Neither have a future at the club.

Shame. I really want to see a bit more of those boys.

Futsboller

His parents probably didn’t sign the permission slip in time.

Chris

Yeah I did wonder if age comes into this at all? Nwaneri and MLS are only 16, are there many precedents for players that young to go on US tours with the first team?

Johnny 4 Hats

While I get that, these boys are special talents and I don’t think the Nwaneri saga is quite over yet. I heard that although he’s resigned a youth contract, he still has a decision to make about signing a proffessional contract with us next summer. But regardless of that, I just think about Cesc, Anelka and Jack who were doing the business at 16 / 17 and wonder what the big issue is with just bringing them on the tour and giving them a few minutes that will otherwise go to players that we know too well what their capabilities… Read more »

Chapeau

Read somewhere that MLS and Nwaneri will be working with the U21s who are going to Spain for pre-season. While these guys are special, they’re still relatively young and not breaking into the team this season or next. They’ll have plenty of pre-season tours to be in the future, but the U21s is pretty suitable for them at this time. Unlike you, I don’t get the Patino situation at all. He is closer to the first team and we’re not hearing anything about him. Nothing about staying, a sale, loan, or injury. It is pretty strange and I really hope… Read more »

Johnny 4 Hats

Well god damn it Chapeau. You just spat a whole bunch of sense.

DialSquareGoon

Patino is getting sold. Player wants the move. It was in the news weeks ago.

Dr. Gooner

Seeing the likes of Miles Lewis Skelly get minutes in midfield over him certainly doesn’t inspire confidence about his future at the club. I agree there seems to be more to this than meets the eye because he’s a highly rated player who acquitted himself well in a meaningful loan.

John

Great chance for Alex Runar Runarrson to stake his claim as Arsenal’s number 1. Ramsdale will have to be on his toes.

AlexNuggz

🤣👍

Robbo

Matt Turner is already there….

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

From what we saw of Ramsdale, last season, he looks finished

AlexNuggz

Shame about Nelson, he needs to stay fit if he wants to ever break into the team with all this competition!

OhRockyRocky

Why is Partey not on the plane/ expected next week? Any explanation?

Kentish Gooner

Washing his balls.

Stonks

Alex runarsson? Seriously

Gooner7190

I actually forgot he was still employed by us till I saw the list

mjc1892

One of the training clips from Germany had him it, was rather amusing. They were training catching with the keepers, and he’d charge out and scream ‘ALEX’ at the top of his lungs. Then Ramsdale the the drill and didn’t say a word. Not sure if that’s him staking his claim..

Geefive

Let’s hope an MLS team sees him as a viable GK and makes an offer. Pizza party and a case of beer?

H2k

For those questioning why x or y is going when they don’t have a future with the club, this is an opportunity to put them in the shop window and make them more attractive for others to come in and buy

Nainsley Aitland Miles

Not Mikel’s style to give a few minutes to a player for the shop window.

A club interested in one of our players would already have all the info, video, data they need. Couple of friendlies won’t make a difference.

Which explains why Okonkwo, Cedric, Pepe, Tavares, Lokonga haven’t travelled. Runarsson is there because a club always travels with 3 keepers.

ESR4BallonD'or2026

ACD is a really talented young lad…not the quickest…but you can see very smart football thinking in his play style similar to BS…watching out for that talent

Paul

I reckon Partey is going. I’d be happy with Romeo Lavia.

(15) The Match That Made Arteta Fall in love with Roméo Lavia! – YouTube

Fatgooner

Big rumours on the internet that Partey is about to sign for a Saudi club.

I hope it’s not true.

Thierry Bergkamp (non negotiable)

Hooefully not, that would be a step backwards

Nainsley Aitland Miles

The latest seems to be he wants to stay in Europe, and Juventus are interested. I doubt they can afford him though.

Paul

Say hello to Romeo?

Geefive

I’d like him to stay but if he does go, hopefully the Saudi money coming in is BIG.

Joker

Where’s Partey?

Nainsley Aitland Miles

Emile Smith Rowe and Thomas Partey are expected to join the squad next week.

Heavenly Chapecoense

In that case, shouldn’t they still be included in the list? Is the list a passenger manifest?

Badaab

Yes that’s the point of the article, it’s not our finalized prem squad

Yeah it’s like the episode of Lost when Hurley found out Ethan wasn’t on the flight.

Cedric isn’t on the flight but you’ll still see him warming up with the substitutes.

Kentish Gooner

Washing his balls.

Brian

Would anyone happen to know where Arsenal’s training in Washington, DC on Monday and Tuesday this week?

Nainsley Aitland Miles

President Biden should invite them to train on the White House gardens.

chepetin

The WH lawn might be better. Don’t need anyone getting caught up in the rose bushes…

Brian

Last summer, when they played Everton in Baltimore, they were booked to train at the University of Maryland but were so dissatisfied with the facilities that they shifted to the Naval Academy in Annapolis. This summer, there’s rumors they may be training at Segra Field or DC United’s Inova Performance Complex nearby in Leesburg, Virginia. Might be the only chance my kids get to see them as the MLS All-Star Game is sold out (Audi Field has a capacity of something like 20,000), with tickets going for $250 to $350, which is insanity for a friendly.

Savage

Something that struck me in the Declan Rice behind the scenes video is that Edu and Arteta were Arsenal players who won silverware here. We take it for granted that the two leaders of the pack have the club in their system.

Daniel

And Mertesacker and Wilshire with the academy as well

Giuseppe Hovno

No REISS? Why????

Paul
croarse

ESR is on holidays? And Partey? You didn’t mention them.

Naked Cygan

Cedric will come with boat to USA.

Scott Berry

Party and Smith Rowe will be meeting them on the tour

Arsenalfanthem

How is Alex Runarsson still knocking about at the training ground, and on this tour?

Dr. Gooner

The squad build and plan seems clear enough and supported well by this selection of players. Overall, the squad looks exceptionally well stocked in defense and midfield. The major worry is at RW where there is a steep drop off in quality after Bukayo Saka. The inclusion of Cozier-Duberry is a nod to his stylistic similarities with his senior colleague but also highlights a crucial deficiency in the squad at that position. I also have concerns at striker, where the gulf in class between Jesus and Nketiah is also keenly felt. There has been much talk about the positions I… Read more »

Are you one of the coach that is using a burner’s account? 😛

Mentalista

First sighting of the league champions squad.

Death by 300,000 Passes

Makes me impression the complete lack of attention to the inclusion of Auston Trusty. When we brought in Timber to boos the right hand side, I was wondering what is the plan for the left. Apart from Gabriel “The Rock” Magalhaes and the tipped to leave KT, there we have only Kiwior to cover both left full back and left central defender positions. Of course there is also Tomiyasu, when fit, but he is right footed, and we know how specific Arteta can be. So is it possible that Trusty is given a chance? Last year his loan spell was… Read more »

Daniel

Seeing how many of the exciting youth players aren’t going on the tour has convinced me to buy a ticket for the annual Borehamwood pre season game on the 28th

Death by 300,000 Passes

We should change our main sponsor, seems Emirates don’t have planes big enough for our needs!

Chinus

After looking at the travel list, I compiled a list of the current squad. With everyone in and no one sold I count 36 (including Amario). My list have10 Home Grown players, 2 U21and 14 Foreign Player . If we sell HG players we might have to sell an additional FP just to balance the books.

I have the following six as not a part of the future. Sambi Lokongo,Cedric Soares, Nuno Tavares, Nicolas Pepe, Auston Trusty, Alex Runarsson. Who are the other 3 to 4 players to go?

Dan

Got tickets for the LA game at SoFi. I’d like to get a chance to see Arsenal train and possibly get an autograph or two. Does anyone know where they’ll be training or staying in LA?
