New contracts sorted for White and Tomiyasu

It’s over four months since Mikel Arteta confirmed that Edu was negotiating a new deal for Ben White and the process, according to The Athletic, has now come to a conclusion.

The England international will sign a four-year contract on revised terms with the club retaining an option to retain his services for an additional 12 months.

White still has two years left on his current terms but having been a first team regular since he joined for £50 million from Brighton in 2021, he’s earned himself a pay rise that aligns him with the club’s other big earners.

Arsenal are also expected to confirm that fellow full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu has also committed his long-term future to the club on revised terms.

Overall, Arsenal have done an impressive job wrestling control of the player contract situation in the last three years.

As we head towards the summer, there are four first team members with deals due to end in June. They are veterans Cedric Soares and Mo Elneny, goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo and Jorginho. The club want to keep the latter.

Looking ahead, only Thomas Partey and Karl Hein have deals ending in 2025.

Great bit of news, though I can’t think of many other clubs they’d want to be at! Let’s sign up Jorginho for another year or two. Partey if he is and will be truly at his pre-injury form, otherwise he can go.

Looking forward to the seasons to come!

Obviously I’m totally hand-wringing here and I know we pay a lot less on wages than our rivals. But although our wage bill was tiny two or three years ago, nearly every single first team player is on a really generous wage now. Even the Nelson’s and Nketiah’s are on six figures. I’m not in anyway criticising the expenditure, it absolutely has to be done. But it shows that you just can’t help but pay top dollar if you want to compete with the big boys. So excited for this summer. We already look like a world class team and… Read more »

The difference is, we got rid of a lot of dead wood on high wages, brought in young talent on medium to low wages, and now they’ve stepped up their getting the big boy contracts they have earned.
They’re all young enough to sell on if and when we have to also so value is retained.
Yes Nelson and Nketiah etc have prob too much but expect they’ll be sold for tidy ish sums and we can start to bring in healthier competition or young talent again.

i’m pretty sure we have the third highest wage bill in the prem….

Beautiful and lovely.

And one more for the last match..oh captain, my captain <3

Good job. Maybe the most underrated full back in the world right now? Somehow not playing for his country, probably would be on very few people’s list of the top 5 RBs in the world, but it says everything that not a single Arsenal fan in the last two years has thought we could use an upgrade in that position, even Timber couldn’t displace him when he was fit so had to be used at LB. Defends like a rock, great with the ball, even comes up with some lovely assists and goals lately, and does it all with the… Read more »

Absolutely, such an underrated player and I’m totally fine with that. Keep your walker’s and your trents, I’d take Ben White every day of the week.

Actually, I feel we could do with having a more attack minded fullback on the right, like Frimpong from Leverkeusen. Not to replace White but to provide a different option when teams park the bus

Off topic but does anyone know what Arsenal players have been called up for Interlull. Martinelli has been withdrawn but I hope Tomi is not joining up with Japan.

Naked Cygan

Martinelli, Nketia, White, and possibly Cedric will stay back. ESR might get picked for the u21 which will give him some minutes, not sure if Nelson will be selected. Other than that I think everyone else will go on International duty. Both Brazil games are also played in Europe, which is good for Jesus and Gabriel.

Arsenalista

These interlulls are so annoying this time of year. If we were to get an injured to Ode or Gabriel or Rice it would be horrific for us. Fast forward 2 weeks with no injuries and bring on Citeh whom I just read have an injured De Bruyne.

No doubt Saka will be used to the max now that Southgate has his teeth into him. I don’t know what interlull this is but I expect some pointless friendlies and other guff with the risk of injury to our precious players.

If ramsdale is sold. Does Karl hein deserve the chance to be the number 2?

Naked Cygan

If we can afford it, keeping Ramsdale as a number 2 incase Raya gets injured should be the best option. If we need the money, then Hein will be ok as number 2 playing domestic cup games. The problem with option two is that if Raya gets injured then we will be in trouble.

Tom 007

With big Gabi to clatter any body who nears him I doubt if he will get injured on the match day… Maybe training sessions.. hahaha…
He will be in the starting line up in the next three seasons…so less worries…
