According to Spanish publication Diario Vasco (translated by Sport Witness), Real Sociedad will try to sign Joel Campbell at the end of the season having failed with a bid in January.
David Moyes is believed to have held talks with Arsenal during the last transfer window only for the Costa Rican attacker to move on loan to Villarreal as part of the deal for defender Gabriel Paulista.
Campbell signed for the Gunners in August 2011 but took four years to make his Premier League debut for the club having repeatedly been denied a work permit. He eventually made 10 appearances this season (seven as a sub) but struggled to hold down regular first team football even when other high profile attackers were out injured.
Out of contract in the summer, the 22-year-old penned a new deal at the Emirates before completing his loan to El Madrigal meaning the Gunners can still cash in on a player whose reputation has grown significantly in the last 12 months thanks to a successful spell at Olympiakos and an eye-catching World Cup.
Real Sociedad is home to ex-Gunner Carlos Vela, who completed a two-stage move last summer that earned Arsenal somewhere in the region of £10 million. Campbell, who has also been linked with a move to Portugal, probably won’t fetch that amount but he has been valued around £8 million…a figure we’ve plucked out of our arse.
Arseblog News suspects this rumour lives and dies by Moyesy’s success in Spain. Sociedad currently sit in mid-table, but are only 5 points above the relegation zone.
Shame but I won’t be upset to see him go, not the top, top quality we should have.
Good luck to him.
I had forgotten about him to be honest. Such a shame as we waited years to see him in Arsenal colours only for him to not really get much chance to shine. Can’t see him staying at the club long term due to him being so far behind others in his position
Don’t forget what happened with our Coq!
I watched a few Villareal games recently and he’s a talented player. But while he’s aesthetically pleasing from a neutral point of view he’s not nearly influential enough, he lacks the confidence and certainty required to decide games. He’s still young and maybe it’ll come, all the raw ingredients are there. It’s always fascinating to see how technically talented players like Joel turn out, because it’s such an insight into how important it is for a footballer to have the right mentality. Football is a very varied and subtle game which requires a player to have a vast skill set… Read more »
Does anyone have some information on how he is playing or not playing at Villareal?
8 matches played, 3 of those as sub. No goals or assists. Though no idea if he is playing well or not apart from these stats.
After the spineless performance against Monaco I wouldn’t mind seeing a young, hungry player like Campbell given a chance. At least he has spirit.
All views welcome but yours are so against the majority so often! Are you on a different diet to the rest of us or something? Just saying… 🙂
“A figure we’ve plucked out our arse” Love it!!
Could also be found at such reputable transfer gossip sites such as caught offside and tribal football or even the Talkshite webpage, home of all truth and bullshit!!
My sentiment exactly 🙂 Thanks for being honest!
Good talent. Not sure he will make it but he need look no further that me cow for inspiration! Never say never.
you’re auto-collect as greet!
Hilarious.
Is your cow that good at football then? 🙂
Good talent. Not sure he will make it but he need look no further than Le Coq for inspiration! Never say never.
Agree, never say never. He’s only 22 as well. Has shown occassional flashes of promise. Unlikely to ever become an Arsenal regular but not beyond the realms of possibility.
Tell us more about your cow though…
I think I preferred ‘me cow’
I prefer me cow lol
Sorry I was drunk the first time.
wow, you sobered up in one minute? That’s gotta be a record. Either it takes just a swig to get you drunk, or you have the world’s greatest liver

With the likes of Giroud, Welbeck, Sanogo, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott, Chamberlin and even Gnabry ahead of him for the three forward/wing positions there is little chance of him ever breaking through as Wenger surely doesn’t rate him very high with his lack of playing time this year when we were short handed. Most feel, as I do, that he should have been given a chance this year to prove himself, but that did not happen. I would sell him this Summer before his value decreases from his lack of playing time. He surely was at his peak value after the… Read more »
He’s just 22 and is playing in spain, in 2 years his value can easily be larger.
He’s only 22yrs. Plenty of potential considering Coquelin, Walcott, Ramseyall came good at 23yrs!!!
Wenger will see how he has progressed till end of season at the Madrigal first.
If not, he can be sold and we will look for another striker.
I like his range of soups. At least if it doesn’t work out with us he has his culinary skills to fall back on.
Where is the poop-o-meter?
Hey how is TGSTEL doing at barca cough cough I meant wolfsburg?
