Arsene Wenger, being the very polite man that he is, says he’s flattered when his name is linked with the England job but says his focus is firmly on Arsenal.
After the dismissal of Sam Allardyce the FA are on the lookout for a new man (while the sections of the press need a new target to ruin), and the Frenchman’s name is often put up when this situation arises.
Asked if he was flattered with such links, he said, “Of course but my priority has always been this club.
“Until the end of this season I am here and completely focused on that.”
Pressed on what might happen at that point, he said, “That’s not decided. I said many times my priority was towards Arsenal Football Club, I will have to assess how well I do until the end of the season.”
Whatever happens then, it’s fair to say the manager has managed to get his team playing the kind of football synonymous with his 20 year reign again.
Whether it brings success is another question, but it’s considerably more enjoyable than it has been in recent times.
The Frenchman was also asked his post-match press conference if he knew the words to God Save The Queen. Being a massive Sex Pistols fan in the 1970s, he replied in the affirmative.
Well, well, well.
Anyone else’s first thought, don’t take our Arsene?
Fucking love the legend. Please stay with us for life Wenger. We’re going back to our title days I can feel it. This legend has to win the CL for us otherwise won’t be the same feeling. #OneArsèneWenger
That England manager job has become vacant too soon for the manager…of Man U.
Mourinho is the ideal successor for Sam.
I’m not wishing bad things to the English team. However, if the FA thought Sam was the perfect choice when they appointed him Mourinio was the perfect successor.
Both play football from the ages past. Both are full of themselves.
And both are of course complete tw@ts
No-one is as big a cunt as Moronho, not even John Terry.
Why on earth would Wenger take the England job? To be maligned by the press at the first loss? To have all this expectation before a major tournament, only for the players to bottle it? For the xenophobes to come out in droves like they did against Sven or Fabio? He gets enough, often misplaced, criticism – not that he is beyond criticism – from sections of the Arsenal fan base, not to mention pundits and journalists without needing the rest of the country on his back too – because y’know, other people support other clubs for some reason ?.… Read more »
Engeland can piss off. They’re not going to get him. Even after this season, why would he bother? Firstly he isn’t English. Secondly its a thankless task and a poison chalice. Thirdly if he is already suffering enough grief from certain Arsenal fans even with his achievements at Arsenal, think what he’ll get if we had a negative result against say San Marino. Fourthly I’m sure he’d prefer to manage Le Bleu. Why sully his reputation trying to elevate England when that job is possibly waiting for him following world cup 2018. Likely he’ll extent till 2018 IMO. See how… Read more »
Nope
The man deserves better.
England is just lucky to have clubs that was preffered aound the world. The national team always looked average ….. Press aren’t helping matters too with their nosy reporting
I’m convinced being the England manager is something akin to being in Diyu, probably about level 12.
Here’s an idea… why not try NO manager at all? The players can just go out and play.
Wouldn’t change much, would it?
He gets enough stick from his own fans now. Would he want that times ten?
Long may he remain focused on Arsenal and not England! I never want to see him leave.
Since Rooney effectively runs the side let him have a crack at managing, i bet his team talks would be inspiring
The man is a legend around these parts why the fuck would he mess with the English job. It’s not like they are going to knight him. Keep your current focus sir.
Stay with us till your last Arsene.
When you are 93 years old they can fashion the managerial seat to be really really comfortable, so that you pass at the end of a treble winning season!
May you be buried in the Emirates so that you may be ever looking after the team.
Arsene, Legend.
Do get me wrong, I really want Arsene to stay, but having just listened again to what he said, I am a bit worried. When asked if he was interested in the England job, he began by saying “we, yes..” before going on to affirm his commitment to Arsenal until the end of the season. To me,that could be interpreted as an invitation to the FA to leave the door open for a while and he might definitely be interested. I just hope I’m wrong. Fuck you Alardice you greedy, moronic, twatspanner, walrus person…
“er yes”, not “we yes” – damn autocorrect!
