Bellerin: Recovery is going better than expected

Hector Bellerin says his recovery from an ankle ligament problem is going better than expected, and he hopes to be back in action in about four weeks.

The right-back, who has just signed a new long-term deal with the club, picked up the problem at the end of the North London derby against Sp*rs.

There were fears he might be sidelined for longer than first though, but speaking to the Mirror he says things are improving much more rapidly than that.

“It’s going really good, he said. “Better than I expected. It is a hard injury to recover from and a bit painful.

“But I am going to try to be running from this week and hopefully I’ll be back on the pitch in less than four weeks.”

With Mathieu Debuchy set to miss an extended period with another injury, it’ll be good to see Hector back.

In the meantime, Arsene Wenger has to decide on who will fill the gap with Carl Jenkinson, Gabriel and Rob Holding all candidates.

Gooooooooooooona

I honestly liked Niles when he played there and I think wenger should play him there tomorrow just to see how it goes and whethers it’s actually an option going forward. I love jenkinson but I just don’t think he’s quite up to the level required. Gabriel actually did a good job when he came on and was solid defensively but I just don’t see him taking a player on and whipping in a nice cross.

Berlingoon

Come on guys. Jenks had a couple of games after being out for nearly a year. He was excellent in a really good West Ham side until he got injured. Maybe he hasn’t got the quality for Arsenal but nobody knows that at the moment. And I don’t even think he was that bad in the games against united and PSG, which are not exactly easy games to start again after a year out. have some trust in our players.

Gooooooooooooona

Totally agree with you, but it no coincidence that against PSG our right back position was wide open for the first goal, every time he made a tackle at old trafford the ball went out for a corner immediately putting us back in pressure. Szczezny wasn’t a shit goal keeper but for every time he made a save the ball went out whereas Cech catches the ball more often, releasing the pressure off his teammates. That’s the difference between a decent player and a world class player. By no accounts is Niles world class but the guy is an engine,… Read more »

Right? Everyone said the same “he’s just not on the right level for us” ish about coq and campbell too, but they both proves to be solid after they got a real chance. Not sayin he’s the best ever, but i don’t think we’ve seen enough for all these definitive opinions yet.

H18ury

Hopefully he’ll play vs Soton so AW can judge if he’s ready for PL action. If the Corporal really isn’t up to the job then why not try young Ainsley?

Gooooooooooooona

By now wenger knows exactly what the corporal is capable of. I think he should try either Gabriel, holding or Niles so he can decide if playing jenkinson doesn’t work, who the next best option would be.

Marshall

Holding might actually be good there.

Bould's Eyeliner

Jenkinson has miles of experience ahead of Niles, decent pace, a good cross, and enough physicality to deal with the EPL. While Maitland-niles does look promising, he’s still a youth player looking for his break, and he hasn’t shown hitherto unknown talents. Sure bellerin and iwobi are the exceptions, but to claim that Niles is better than jenkinson at this point in time is pretty much nonsense.

Arseguy

It’s the speed force I tell ya.

Boilk

Wonderful news that fantastic speedy player gets speedy recovery..!

Timisrightfoot

Would like to see holding given a go or even ox – winger has used him on a few occasions as a sub…
We know jenks does an okay job – nothing spectacular
Gabriel always looks like his one moment away from a rash challenge or mistake and offers little going forward…

This is great news.

On a different note, saying a prayer for the Brazilian football players whose plane had perished. Rest in peace.

Thanks man!
Here is crazy, everybody its like, we dont know what to do

Our thoughts are with their families and friends in this time of grief.

Arsepedant

It’s terrible, what’s happened to Chapecoense. Our thoughts are with their families.

Holding has really looked assured when he has played. I would start with him.

santori

Defo play HOlding with Gabriel in EFL.

Think Chambers should be brought back in (following loan spell) as a Rback which was his natural position for Soton.

NO point converting him into a Cback.

he will have KOscielny (good for 2-3 seasons more), Mustafi, Gabriel and HOlding ahead of him.

santori

We have been missing a lot of Bellerin’s support on the right f is limited technically.

Debuchy when he came on for his rather brief spell showed much better impetus and know how going forward. Alas injury.

Thought Gabriel after some adjustment issues was solid and frankly plays with a lot more guile than Jenko.

Think Jenko will be used for the EFL but Garbriel is food for thought as Rback IMO.
