Former Arsenal Academy head Andries Jonker has once again raided the Emirates, this time to sign head of player development Jan van Loon for new club Wolfsburg.
On taking up his appointment at the Emirates in 2014, Jonker hired both Van Loon and fellow compatriot Frans de Kat having worked with the pair in the Dutch national team setup.
De Kat, who worked with the under-18s at London Colney, returned to work with the KNVB last summer. Van Loon, who has predominantly worked with the under-15s at Hale End, will take up his new role in Germany soon.
Jonker left Arsenal in January to take charge at Wolfsburg. Not long after, Freddie Ljungberg, who at the time was working with Arsenal’s under-21s, joined as his assistant. Most recently young striker Kaylen Hinds moved to the Volkswagen Arena in a £2 million deal.
The Arsenal Academy is currently being run by Luke Hobbs on an interim basis with Per Mertesacker due to take over at the end of next season. The Dutch reshuffle didn’t really go to plan in the end. Let’s hope the BFG has more luck.
