Jess Samuelsson Leaves Arsenal Women

Arsenal Women’s Swedish right-back Jess Samuelsson has left the club, having played her final game as a substitute in the 5-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday. Jess joined the club in the summer of 2017, but has been plagued by foot injuries since joining.

After just two Arsenal starts, Samuelsson suffered an excruciating foot injury on international duty when her goalkeeper accidentally fell on top of her. Jess badly broke two metatarsal bones and tore ligaments in her foot, sidelining her for 10 months after a couple of setbacks.

Jess broke her foot again during the winter and only returned recently. The Swede will join Rosengard. It’s currently unclear whether she will represent her country at this summer’s World Cup.

Bought to replace Alex Scott, it really is a shame that Jess’ Arsenal career never got going due to injuries. All the best to Jess in whatever comes next. You can read our exclusive interview with her from September here.

Too bad she didn’t get a chance to claim her position. Swedes in Arsenal always bring an extra amount of joy to me.

So sorry it didn’t work out for you, Jess — best wishes as you move on, and better luck in Norway. Hope to see at the World Cup.

Pedantic maybe, but Rosengard is a Swedish team (a suburb of Malmo). Rosenborg is the more famous (in men’s soccer) Norwegian team.

Best wishes Jess. Hopefully your luck will change and “Cinders will make it to the World Cup Ball”. Thinking of which. What about our other missing defender? Haven’t seen any updates on our stalwart Mitch???

Fun Gunner

Rosengard actually sound like a team of elves from LOTR.

Anyhow, good luck to you, Jess.

So that’s three defenders needed at least in the summer, surely – Schnaderbeck and Samuelsson off and we were short anyway, weren’t we?

Gooner10

Is Viki definitely leaving?
