Arsenal Women Arsecast Episode 40: March mailbag

Welcome to a brand new episode of the Arsenal Women Arsecast, the number one podcast about Arsenal Women.

On this month’s mailbag episode of the Arsenal Women’s Arsecast, Tim, Alex and Pippa take listener questions on the upcoming UWCL tie with Wolfsburg, including Arsenal Women in the renovation of Emirates Stadium and Arsenalising Meadow Park.

There are questions on Jordan Nobbs’ 250th Arsenal appearance and whether that could have been handled better, whether the Miedema and Blackstenius partnership can be used in the Champions League and how best to handle big international players who are struggling for minutes.

You can follow Tim on Twitter @Stillberto, Alex @AlexIbaceta23, and Pippa @pippa_monique

If you are a regular listener via iTunes, if you would be so kind as to leave a review/rating that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for answering my question again. There will be a time I’ll shake your hand and introduce myself. Tottenham the 26th will be my first attempt to find you 😉

Thanks to you all – I really enjoyed that. For me, after 67 years of following the Arsenal, it’s wonderful that I’m still being carried along on a wave of enthusiasm, especially due to the women’s team. Back in the 70-71 season, I could travel round the country and buy a ticket on the day for a few shillings. It’s all so inflexible now in the Premier League (and expensive) but if I decide next Sunday morning to get in my car and drive to Crawley, I can. I’m now even looking at flights to Wolfsburg. I think I’ll have… Read more »

Beware! The Brighton game in Crawley is an evening KO. Don’t get there too early.

Really enjoyed the discussion. Exciting times for you journos to be covering at AWFC. Particularly the views on Jordan and Viv – “will they go or will they stay” ? Your thoughts that a one year extension for Viv seems a likely outcome. For our beloved Jordan the situation is more complex and her rushed 92nd minute substitution at the weekend to achieve her 250th appearance was imo a big PR mistake by Jonas. Hopeful, Jordan will get the respect she deserves with a presentation and all the trappings at the Emirates before the Spud’s game.

Lovely episode but I have to disagree that Viv is the only player really excelled in that number 10 position. I think Kim Little really did excel as a number 10. Prime example would be our game against Man City Women when we won by 5 goals. I personally believe that the closer Miedema and Little play together, the better we perform. When Little is playing a deeper role, Miedema just because isolated as a 9 and often comes deeper to collect the ball.

Absolutely agree – Kim has been a sensational servant for Arsenal being the key playmaker and of course team leader. She’s all over the pitch in every single game. A truly inspired move to position Viv at number 10, where she’s been a revelation, of course not entirely unexpected given her talent, but her contribution to the cause has gone up hugely. Especially agree about the Little/Miedema link-up, which is now taking Arsenal’s offensive moves to an even higher level.

New to the podcast – really enjoyed it, thanks! Off to delve in the archives! 🤓 On legends: would love to see Kelly Smith recognised alongside male legends with mentions for Faye White & Alex Scott. There’s a few in the current squad who are legends for tomorrow… On transfers: hope and believe Viv will stay at least another year – there’s everything going for her here right now! For me, it isn’t a question of whether she is better as striker OR no10, her vision and touch are devastating when she has the freedom to roam and mix it… Read more »
