Venkatesham: We have a clear plan

While Arsenal fans await the next update in the ongoing pursuit of Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhailo Mudryk, CEO Vinai Venkatesham maintains the club are working to a “very clear plan.”

It’s no secret that the Gunners are keen to add strength in depth to a squad that is leading the Premier League pack, especially with rivals spending big money and a deluge of fixtures on the horizon.

In addition to Mudryk, who has already been the subject of two offers, there is arguably room on the roster for another striker to provide competition to Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus, and a midfielder capable of filling in for Thomas Partey.

It remains to be seen how much of a statement the Gunners are prepared to make in the transfer market this January, but it seems like the club is ready to hold its nerve in negotiations and won’t give in to short-term needs just for the sake of adding bodies.

“We’ve got a very clear plan, headed up by Edu, in terms of what we want to do to strengthen the squad,” Venkatesham told Sky Sports.

“Every transfer window of course, we’re going to look to see what opportunities are out there.

“If something makes sense from a technical perspective and a financial perspective, of course, we’ll look at it but we’re happy with the squad that we’ve got.

“We’ll have a look around like we do in every transfer window, but we’ve got a long-term plan to continue to strengthen the team.”

Arteta has been boosted by the return to fitness of Emile Smith Rowe and at some point in the next month to six weeks, there’s a chance that summer signing Jesus will find full fitness following knee surgery.

Let’s hope the plan entails winning the next 21 league games and putting 6 past them lot on Sunday

Teryima Adi

🙏🏾

Daveo

He’d make a great politician. Say a lot of things, but really nothing of substance.

Bongogooner

Well then you don’t understand the clarity of the plan, short and long-term

Savage

Well he said they have a plan, and who’s arguing with that?

You can see why United, Sp*rs and Chelsea fans are getting jealous…

Chris

And really should have gone after a scandal (European Super League).

Martin R

He has nothing to do with Arsenal joining the European Super League. It was purely Stan Kroenke

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

Super League was a very good idea for football consumers.

TheLimpBar

What should he say? We’re after this guy and that guy and we have x million to spend?
The transfers have been much better in recent times, best leave them to it I say!

Daveo

Testy bunch…lighten’ up mate. You’re precious Venky will be ok.

TheLimpBar

Yes it’s clear I’ve been the one taking it reeeeaaal serious

Nacho de Montreal is tasty

Chelsea already got Badiashile and Joao Felix in and Nkunku for the summer. Hope we do not collapse at the end of the season like last year and you start complaining.

Deano

Cracking debut from Felix, sent off and a three match ban. Oh the smile on my chops

Emi Rates

Don’t dodge the subject, why didn’t we buy Felix? Why why why????

Martin R

Because the fee of £10 million was purely for a half season loan which was ridiculous

Emi Rates

Errrr yes, I know that. Hence my mock crybaby post ala certain crybabies here who some of them are actually bemoaning the fact that we didn’t waste our time and money on Felix.

Mikels Arteta

No option to buy would be the nail in the coffin is my guess

Teryima Adi

Too expensive. Great player though. We go for him in the summer.

TeeCee

Three match ban? Isn’t that about 3 million quid’s worth of sitting on his arse?
Bargain.

Bob

Daveo, we know you’re really Todd B, hardly able to hide your disappointment Vinai hasn’t spelt out what’s clearly a very good plan in action!

zasa

Temper your expectations. He’s not going to lay out any details that would strategically undermine the club. The only CEO’s that are required to that are the ones that run public companies.

sir me

All i’ve heard is …….. we’ll most likely not sign anyone this window but, trust the process

Bob

Why are so many here so negative? Have you checked the table recently? If you can’t get behind the team now…

Martin R

Where have you heard we won’t be signing anybody? I suppose the attempt to sign Mudryk for example is pure fiction

sir me

It apparently was fiction after all

sir me

Mudryk allegedly joining Chelshit. What do y’all downvoters say now?

Badaab

Lack of depth and options really hurt us in our push for top four last year, let’s hope they’ve learned the lesson about adding in january this time around

Ebo

Now as soon as we sign Mudryk we need a photoshop of Vinai’s pic with the head of Hannibal from the A-Team pasted on top of his, smoking a pipe

“I love it when a plan comes together!”

Fatgooner

Chelsea! Felix!!

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Emi Rates

I was just telling my wife the background to Felix and how Chelsea fell for that bullshit deal and are now paying a fortune for a shit player with a shit attitude. She pointed out how his three match ban more or less means Chelsea have lost a month off the five they’re already overpaying for. Well observed.

The best bit of business we never did. Fuck Chelsea!

Thierry Bergkamp (Non negotiable)

A club with a plan, I like that.
Then there’s a club like Chelsea, who I’m liking a lot lately

Brian

Love a good plan. But as Mike Tyson once said,
everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth

Teryima Adi

😀
