Arsenal confirm Timber knee injury

Arsenal have confirmed that Jurrien Timber has injured his right knee but the full extent of the damage is still to be determined.

According to sources in Holland, the summer signing from Ajax is believed to have damaged his ACL.

In a short statement, the club says: “Further to his substitution during our match against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, Jurrien Timber has received extensive assessments and scans which have confirmed he has sustained an injury to his right knee.

“Jurrien will undergo a further detailed assessment and review with a consultant in the coming days to assess the full extent of the injury, in order to determine the next steps. A further update will be provided in due course.

“Everyone at the club will be focused on supporting Jurrien at this time.”

Timber required treatment on his knee during the final moments of the first half of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest. He reemerged after the break attempting to carry on but went down a second time and was substituted.

All our thoughts are with Jurrien at this time. After such a promising start to life at Arsenal this is a real blow for him.

A real shame for all concerned.
Best of luck for a speedy recovery Jurrien.
Hopefully we err on the side of caution and keep Tierney about and Tomi fit 🤞

Funsho Patrick

Wow!🥺…..Tierney stays!! Such a class act jurrien timbre… hopefully he’s only out for a few months and returns like a new signing when needed most…Get well soon

Vieiraera

This is just so arsenal !!! What crime did we commit against the injury gods? Wonder if this will force edu et all back into the transfer market. We can’t go into this season with holding as back up to Saliba

Dougie

He’s not.
White is, with Tomiyasu next in line.

CarlosLA

not really “so arsenal”… Mings and Buendía lost to ACLs w/in 4 days of each other. Kalvin Phillips played a little bit and then missed basically his entire debut season w/ MC. Etc etc. If we want to challenge for the top, depth is key! That said, here’s to a speedy recovery for Jurien!

Moff

Gutted for him. Was looking the real deal based on pre-season form. Get well soon Timber and look forward to seeing you fighting fit and back in the red & white soon.

Fatgooner

Why don’t we just only buy injured players? That way we don’t have to worry in the first place.

Monkey knees

Stop, fats. He’s not had a bad injury record at all. Bad take…

Fatgooner

Players all have a nice clean injury record – until they come to Arsenal.

Lordelpus

Those pesky injury gods strike again – they banjax our players for their sport….

Cameron

Medical team face palm brining him back out

Nanu

All the best, Jurrien.
He’ll be like a new signing again when he returns, hopefully for the title running 🤞

VegasGooner

Arsenal’s awesome injury luck it just never fails. Hopefully he can come back better than ever.

Now it’d be awesome if Zinchenko and Tomi could stay healthy for the rest of the season.

The legend of Salibaba

If he has torn his ACL, emphasis on the if, he will require ACL reconstruction surgery in which the surgeon will take part of his hamstring tendon (usually hamstring but can be patella tendon or an ACL from someone else) and replace his torn ACL with that. ACL tears rarely happen in isolation meaning another ligament (often the MCL) and or meniscus are also damaged. Recovery from ACL surgery is long. Athletes who return less than 9 months post op have a massively increased risk of reinjuring their operated side or injuring the other ACL. Many athletes don’t return till… Read more »

There was a recent Arsecast about this, they don’t take the new ACL from the hamstring anymore because it doesn’t function that well as a ligament and messes up the hamstring, so they tend to use donor ligaments these days.

Praying to god it won’t be a complete grade 3 rupture but rather grade 1 or 2 partial tear, with that he could still come back this season.

The legend of Salibaba

It varies on multiple factors but patella tendon tends to be the most common in pro footballers as it has the lowest re rupture rate.

Ebo

If you say so. That’s not what the doctor on last week’s Arsecast said, but being no doctor myself I’m not in a position to argue either way

Teryima Adi

ACL is a monster.😳

Ollie123

At least we have some cover this year but this really is a kick in the cock for all involved

Sauce Thompson

Surely KT stays now

El Mintero

Don’t bank on it. Arteta would rather start himself at lb than give Tierney a start…

JacobD

Should they have let him re-emerge for the 2nd half when up by two goals?? Very frustrating. He looks so good.

Vonnie

I think every Arsenal fan and even the pundits were saying he should be subbed when he was injured in the first half. I was gobsmacked when he came back on, and even more so when he came out for the second half. We were two nil up and cruising, with Mikel having options on the bench. Fucking stupidity by the medical team and the manager. I feel gutted for the player, he was doing brilliantly.

Mkh

With all advances in technology, is there a way to have a very quick assessment of the injury in the 15 min break? Is there a very fast MRI machine? Cost of such a machine is not gonna be more than one month salary of one player.

Ealing

it costs between £200-£500,000. Then you need a MRI technician and a consultant orthopaedic. I don’t think it’s practical. as if the decision is that there is a doubt so strong that you need to go through the machine, you better off the field.

In 1999 Arsenal had one installed at the Central Central Middlesex Hospital, Acton, London. There is a plaque outside it. I went through it in 2009. it’s big beast, in a large room. I think arsenal donated it/loaned it to the hospital.

Rich

If the concerns of a full ACL are true and its 9 months out, then we really need to be moving Tierney on and finding someone who can do the role. Arteta and Edu must have had a 2nd choice for Timber, could be good to move now as long as it isn’t a signing which will cause issues in a year.

Scrubbychubby

Remember Ten Haag bemoaning Arsenal’s good luck with injuries last season? Fucking idiot.

StockholmGooner

I’m starting to think head of our medical team is Dr Lecter..

Mark

Such a shame and terribly bad luck, hopefully he recovers quickly.

Been and Goon

Gutted, he looks awesome. fingers crossed it’s as minor as possible.

I guess not all ligaments are created equal. Perhaps things like knees should be left alone when training. Some of the videos on the AFC site of players falling forwards on their knees whilst behind supported at the ankles maybe a tad extreme.

David

You’re talking about Nordic hamstring curls, I think, which reduce the risks of knee injuries not increase

Monkey knees

KT HAS to stay now….

Hatem

Fuck

Teryima Adi

Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery, Jurrien. Cheers😍🙏🏾

The Peter Simpsons

Absolutely gutted for JT as he has, so far, seemed to be the one who settled quickest among the 3 new additions and early signs are he’s a high quality addition.

One thing that struck me watching live – and I’ve not had a chance to view it again – is I believe the Forest player stopped when JT went down, instead of nicking the ball and potentially going clean through. If my memory is correct then this was a very sporting decision in an increasingly cynical game and perhaps deserved acknowledgment.

Qwaliteee

Anyone NOW think selling Tierney is a fucking good idea…….? 🙄

Jas

We get these players who are rarely injured and when they get to arsenal. Boom
They become injury prone
Is Rice next?
I find it slightly ridiculous that they let him back on the pitch when you’re meant to have strength in depth and not risk a further injury in a match you’re cruising (at that point) against lesser opposition

HKGooner

Get well soon & come back as strong as timber, Timber! Looking forward to see you play for us again!

Qwaliteee

We need to go back into the market for decent quality cover.

Cancelo fits the bill nicely. Let’s make Barcelona cry.
