AS: Ceballos to stay at Arsenal

According to AS, Dani Ceballos will stay at Arsenal for the remainder of the season.

The midfielder, on loan from Real Madrid, has been heavily linked with a return to Spain having reportedly voiced concerns about a lack of playing time recently.

Valencia were said to be leading the chase but their form in La Liga means Zidane and co. are unwilling to sanction such a move.

After a solid start to life in England the 23-year-old saw his progress halted by a hamstring injury that sidelined him for 54 days.

Ceballos made his long-awaited first team return against Bournemouth and will now be hoping that he can continue to challenge for a regular starting berth in the middle of the park.

Prior to Monday’s 2-1 win, Arteta laid down the gauntlet to his compatriot who is said to be worried about not being selected by Spain for Euro 2020.

He said: “He needs to get back to fitness, fight for his place like in any other team, and after that I’ll make the selection that I think is fair with what I see on the pitch.”

It looks as though that message has been heeded. A round of Estrellas for all.

I’d send him home, use the wages on the loaned defender/s

Mpls

? We’re already getting them. I don’t give a fuck about saving half a season’s loan wages. That wouldn’t make the difference between what we’re getting and some major central leader of defense, especially in the winter market. Keep them all.

C.B.

Isn’t that a picture of Mari? Looks just like him…

VAR will solve the problem

Reminds me of Debuchy… got injured, came back not fully fit, wanted to get in the team right away to be in France international team…so maneuvered a loan move and didnt play for that team either…but fucked up hos arsenal careet as well…a little patience and perspective goes a long way.

Longbow

Fuck me! I had completely forgotten that Debuchy even played for us. Fuck Stoke and fuck that cunt Arnautovic.

Sean

I’m glad he has rolled over and given up. There’s definitely a proper player in there under the right tutelage.

Hopefully we see more of the Burnley Ceballos under the Arteta regime ??

Sean

*hasn’t. Fecking phone…

Anonymarse

He clearly has a lot of talent, if we can get him to fit the system

Ya Gooner

Ceballos: I want to go back to real madrid.

Evil ceballos: You must stay

We have a really tough run in. April and May sees us taking on Wolves away, Leicester at home, Sp*rs away, Liverpool at home…

I think we’re going to need as much strength in depth as possible. I’d really welcome having him available than not.

David Hillier's luggage

Does that mean we’re not signing Cedric given we can only have two players on loan at any one time?

Toni. O

You’re allowed a total of four players on loan, but only two from the premier league.

Toni. O

Actually, reading the rules again it seems you’re allowed a total of four players on loan during the season, but you can only register two per window

T.A.

Is that part of the FA’s regulations? Haven’t heard this before.

GoonerMonkey

Found this: Loans between Premier League clubs and other English counterparts are officially called temporary transfers. Under the rules in the Premier League Handbook 2019/20 (Download PDF, size: 11.7MB), there are restrictions on how many players Premier League clubs can loan from other Premier League/English clubs. They are: – Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time. – The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time. – Premier League clubs cannot loan to another… Read more »

Yes – a PL club can’t have more than 2 loan players registered at one time = one of these is going to have to be structured as a permanent transfer. I assume Cedric is bc/ his contract is up this year anyways.

ScrafRaff

Per that article, doesn’t that just apply to loans between English clubs? Therefore, Ceballos would not be affected.

atom

I think you’re right on that actually – good catch.

Esoog

Why does everyone suddenly say “per that..” – Another blog does it all the time

Berlingoon

cause it’s always a good idea to mention Per.

Martin

That only applies to English clubs therefore it doesn’t affect Ceballos

Mpls

Somehow I get the feeling Arteta and the approach he’s building stands a better chance of getting more out of Ceballos and our other midfielders.

Futsboller

A bit surprised by this news — I thought he was leaving for sure. It’s clear that Arteta has not been impressed by him.

I like Ceballos and think he can do a great job deeper back in our midfield (I agree with Arteta that he’s not as effective in the #10 as Ozil and Willock), but Xhaka and Torreira seem to have locked down those starting positions. Perhaps a Ceballos-Guendouzi pairing in the FA Cup?

Rich

The problem he’ll now have is, unless we plan on buying him?

Then he should rightly fall behind Willock, a player who does likely have a future at Arsenal.

Unless we think we can get more from Ceballos in the immediate?

Get the lad from Southampton at right back, push Niles into Midfield, and send Willock to pick up 20 games in the championship, to prepare him for next season.

Homer

“… It’s clear that Arteta has not been impressed by him.”
Yeah, um … no.

Arteta rightly said that he was injured, back in madrid, and had only been training w/the first team 10 days. And he played against Bournemouth just the other day. But don’t let facts get in the way of that “first class” football analysis.

Honestly, analysis goes out the window and folks instead prefer to wildly speculate.

Futsboller

Honestly? He played against Bournemouth as a late-game sub in the FA Cup, hardly a ringing endorsement. If he starts against Burnley, yeah, I’ll eat my words, but spare me the deep lesson in football criticism until then. Arteta’s comments about Ceballos have been guarded, much like Emery’s were about Ozil — he needs to get fitter, work harder in training, and prove he justifies a selection ahead of those I currently put ahead of him (as opposed to Arteta’s comments about Ozil: Mesut has been first rate since I’ve been here and he’s integral to the team). Were we… Read more »

TBH I was shocked at his wanting to go. He.s been injured for 2 months ffs, how did he expect to play

Onenil

People on here seem worried about having too many good players!
We are targeting the Europa and FA cups as well as improvement in the league and Arteta’s high press style is very demanding on the players.
Many seasons have collapsed due to player exhaustion leading to a slump in form and injuries, with insufficient quality back up.
A good fresh player is better than a brilliant one whose totally knackered.

Merlin’s Panini

Ooh i have some Estrella in the fridge! Thanks for the reminder!
Good to see him sticking it out. If he wants to make the Spain squad we should see the best of him.

Snagger

Party, party, party.and the address is?

KongoKim

umm…i dont wanna be a smartass…okay who am i kidding…i need to remind you that estrella is a catalan beer while capitan cebolla is a royalist who tells catalan and basque people to fuck off and so that is very irrelevant to your post…i still dont like him and use this very subtle post to express that….cheers!

Fireman Sam

Oh man, first Brexit and now Catalan politics invading Arseblog.

Very good. Dani was one of the players I was most eager to see under Mikel. The start wasn’t great with Dani injured and doing rehab in Madrid etc…so I was a bit nervous when all the noise about leaving came aboit. I belive he is a class act and one of the biggest talents in the world. Hope for more playing time and to blossom. The next weeks will show…wonder if Mikel knows that we can’t buy him. If so, poor Dani will not play much. If he does play I think we have a chance to buy him.… Read more »

good stuff. now get to the gym

Santori

Good. We need midfielders. Knuckle down, perform well under Arteta, figure things out in the summer. We need to move on from Ozil frankly. He is a good asset to have but at 350K per week and with his contract running down in 2020-21, that money can be spent on at least 2 if not 3 good players. Ozil can be effective but he is a 50-60 minute player. Arsene Wenger knew this. And there’s nothing wrong with that. If he can apply 120% commitment both on AND off the ball for that duration, effectiveness is better than length of… Read more »

Personally I feel Ceballos has more to offer than Ozil.

Again who had the bright idea of extending Ozil to 2021 needs to get his head checked.

Ceballos is potentially the future at 23yrs, he is just about to come into his best years.

As mentioned I don’t see Ozil (nor did Wenger) as a beyond 60 minute player at best so plenty of opportunity to cycle in Ceballos for impact in the attacking midfield slot where he ca likely give us more off ball energy.

But watch out, Willock is very hungry.

Arsenal midfielder: I’m leaving in January

Arteta: no

Arsenal midfielder: you son of a bitch I’m in!

Reality check

Good one.. well played

Hi-Jay

Xhaka, Torreira, Ozil.. and now Ceballos.

Sandy Domenique

I stand by my ‘meh’ from when we thought he was leaving.

Anders Limpar

So many different layers to this kid…

Glasgow_Gooner

He was an exciting player before the injury. He could do the same again

Arteta's hair gel

Extra body to the cause. I dont care what he wants as long as we are well covered should there be an injury

Nosferatu

I don’t think he would have gotten much more time on the pitch with Valencia than here, to be honest. Celades seems to love our Coq–he plays alongside Parejo just about every game, which leaves Kondogbia as a reserve much of the time, and it’s hard to imagine Ceballos arriving now and bumping any of them out of their roles.

Badaab

Loan transfer sagas are the worst, so I’m glad its over. Is he like a new signing now?
I remain unconvinced by Dani Ceballos but there is plenty of time in the season for him to prove me wrong.

Onenil

Everyone was unconvincing under Emery.
But now…

It’s a new dawn,
It’s a new day.
And I’m feeling good!

Santori

Currently in midfield, I think we have to play two variants depending on players available and opponent set up. 1) Two at the base and a playmaker triangle. That would nominally be Granit and Torreira with Ozil or say ceballos or Willock pushing higher up. 2) Inverted triangle with two Mezallas and a DM. Closest to patrolling the bottom end of things is Torreira (albeit he lacks height and does not have as good a long pass as Granit). In many ways, granit is preferable (as a Regista) even if slightly less mobile. That would mean Torreira and Guendouzi or… Read more »

All things being equal I’d rather see permanent players at Arsenal get the minutes vs someone that will be gone at year’s end.

Dave

Glad to see that Arteta has again managed this situation well.

He didn’t cave in to Dani’s public agitation by starting him but clearly has had words again and got Dani committed at least for the rest of the season.
