Mavropanos needs surgery, Guendouzi tests positive for Covid-19

Stuttgart have confirmed that Dinos Mavropanos requires surgery after suffering a knee injury in a friendly game against Freiburg.

The Greek will undergo an operation on his meniscus in the coming days and is presumably facing a lengthy lay-off.

Mavropanos joined Stuttgart on loan for the year in the summer after a noteworthy second half of last season at Nurnberg in Bundesliga 2.

It’s not been a great day for our loanees.

Earlier today, it was confirmed that Matteo Guendouzi is in self-isolation in Germany after testing positive for Covid-19.

The Frenchman appears to have picked up the virus on international duty with France under-21s. His new club Hertha Berlin confirmed he’d not been in contact with any of their players.

While he’s probably frustrated at having to wait for his Bundesliga debut at least he’s not showing any symptoms.

All the best to Dinos and Matteo.

In before they try to cancel his loan

Our young defenders and their dicky knees

Johnny 4 Hats

How many footballers have to get infected on international duty before we end this farce?

Without national teams, it would be quite easy to control the people with whom players have concentrated contact. But going away with your country just messes it all up.

More proof that the powers that be see footballers merely as pound signs. If they had any concern for their well being, they’d knock this nonsense on the head imminently.

Fatgooner

Absolutely fucking right. In the middle of this crisis why are footballers crossing international boundaries to play meaningless friendlies? International football should be cancelled until we get this virus under control.

Bill Door

New Zealand were due to play England in a friendly and they pulled out, fair enough. Friendly games are a waste of time, why have international games when the season is already messed up.

YpsiGooner

Yeah, if I’m New Zealand I’m taking ZERO chances. They seem to be the best place on the planet in terms of virus control, so no way I’d mess with that for a friendly.

Johnny 4 Hats

They are also topping the dystopian police state charts too…

No

I’ve got family over there that I chat to on the reg. They hate it. They have to get a permit to leave their house, they have to tell the authorities where they are at all times and they have curfews in the evening. If you break any of these rules you get arrested, put in jail and then fined.

If that’s what you want life to look like then good luck to you. But I don’t.

PodB

AS they saw over here, yeah right.
Virus free in the community for three weeks. Returnees and visitors must isolate and be tested for 14 days in quarantine hotels.Even the All Blacks are back playing in front of full houses and we vote on legalising weed tomorrow. Partey on dudes.

Yes much better to have killed over 60,000 of your own citizens through rank incompetence. Trust me, I have the misfortune to know a couple of our trusted leaders and I wouldn’t trust them to go round the corner to get me a pint of milk. Neither would they care when they utterly fuck it up and your mum dies. This country is mugged of by conservatives time and time again and it kills people and no one ever seems to get as cross as they should.

Arteta Tots

Agreed. How about playing friendlies virtually thru Fifa21? That would be a spectacle

Merlin’s Panini

Good idea. They could call it esports…

I remember in the 2018-19 season, Benjamin Mendy started well but he had to have surgery on his meniscus and he never played another Premier League match that season.

Odds are Mavropanos’ won’t be playing until the summer again which is rather unfortunate.

As for Guendouzi being infected. I don’t know how international football bodies aren’t embarrassed at this point and willing to throw in the towel.

“Elite sports bubble” they said?

Lucas

I feel sad for him. He did gain confidence and play time at the end of last season for Nuremberg. Was eiger to see him have more game time. He can perhaps play for us when he matures more or fetch us a profit.

Matthinc

Reckon this might be it for him now in terms of Arsenal 1st team. He’s had a rocky ride, not quite looked good enough, and surely this set back will dent his chances of realising his potential even more.

Up4GrabsNow!

First actual “positive” thing we have heard about Guendouzi in a while…

Lord Bendnter

That’s so messed up

Pat Fried Rice with Egg

I choked on my coffee. I feel bad.

Group Captain Mandrake

I feel bad for laughing, but that was funny.

Billy bob

You kinda get the feeling Mavs arsenal career will never take off!!!

SarcasmB0t

Let’s hope he catches a break!

SarcasmB0t

I always felt calling him locker room cancer wasn’t quite right.
