Arsenal fans are praying the club will sign attacking reinforcements this month but so far it’s been pretty quiet on that front.
Sure, there’s been muffled talk of Isak, Vlahovic and the Egyptian lad who seems to be going to Manchester City, but nothing concrete…in fact, they’re so runny they broke the poo-o-meter.
It got us thinking, since Arseblog News began in 2011 have we ever gone through 10 days of a January transfer window without covering an incoming transfer rumour?
We decided to check…
7th January 2012 | Matías Suárez to Arsenal rumours cancel each other out
Auclair’s source insists that negotiations are underway, and with Arsenal being traditionally tough negotiators, and Anderlecht being a selling club, a deal might happen.
4th January 2013 | Wenger admits Ba interest
“I like Demba Ba personally, he is a similar type to Giroud who we just bought. It was one or the other one.”
8th January 2014 | Ancelotti rules out Morata loan
“It looks as if Arsene Wenger will have to look elsewhere to find his man.”
__
2nd January 2015 | It begins: Sissoko and Khedira linked
“The need for at least one central defender is obvious, as is a player who can bring something to our midfield.”
__
1st January 2016 | Arsenal await work permit for January signing
“The 23-year-old has apparently passed a medical, but recent changes to the work permit system mean his move has become more complicated.”
__
3rd January 2017 | Young left-back linked with imminent Arsenal move
“Whispers abound that Arsenal are set to sign 20-year-old left-back Cohen Bramall from Hednesford Town.”
__
3rd January 2018 | Reports: Gunners in for young Greek centre-half
“The 20-year-old [Mavropanos] is, apparently, expected to command a fee of around £2m, but won’t immediately join the club.”
__
3rd January 2019 | Emery: No truth to Navas links
“Given we have limited funds to spend on new recruits and wages, the idea of bringing a new high-profile keeper to the club would be a bit odd.”
__
15th January 2020 | Report: Brazil midfielder on Arsenal radar
“Arsenal have enquired after Athletico Paranaense midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to the Brazi club’s president Mario Celso Petraglia.”
__
7th January 2021 | Arteta expecting to sign young centre-half ‘soon’
“Arsenal are believed to have paid around £1m for the 19-year-old [Omar Rekik] who was born in the Netherlands and who has represented them at youth level, but whose international future lies with Tunisia.”
__
8th January 2022 | Report: Arsenal interested in Palmeiras midfielder Danilo
“It sounds like Palmeiras would prefer to keep hold of their man [Danilo] until the summer, especially with the Club World Cup coming up in February.”
__
2nd January 2023 | Report: Arsenal table increased offer for Mudryk
“While Mudryk remains the club’s priority target, The Athletic claims we’re also keeping tabs on other players, including Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.”
__
5th January 2024 | Tierney rules out January return, Arsenal turn to Ajax for summer replacement
“Tierney has 18 months left on his contract at Emirates Stadium and will likely be sold next summer to make room for new recruits. Several sources, including The Athletic, claim the Gunners have earmarked Ajax youngster Jorrel Hato as a possible replacement.”
Tierney rules out January return, Arsenal turn to Ajax for summer replacement

Who knows, had everything panned out, we might be lining up against Manchester United this weekend with the following lineup…
Keylor Navas (without club); Cohan Bramall (Rotherham), Omar Rekik (Maribor), Dinos Mavropanos (West Ham), Jorrel Hato (Ajax); Sami Khedira (retired), Moussa Sissoko (Watford), Bruno Guimaraes (Newcastle), Danilo (Nottingham Forest); Alvaro Morata (AC Milan), Mykhailo Mudryk (Chelsea / banned)
It’s nearly enough to make you think twice about moaning about our current situation.
I think we’ll go all out this January and sign Isak for 149.1 million after smoking 150 million pipes filled with ganja.
Either that or Arteta will convince everyone that Saka and Nwaneri will return early from injury and having Jesus, Trossard, Havertz, Martinelli and Sterling is more than enough because its what we have to work with.
I can picture it now. Jan 31st, transfer finally goes through after haggling for weeks over payment terms, Feb 1st he gets amputated at the left knee after a light cardio training session.
ohhhh it hurts to read to read about Bruno. What a player he would be for us.
Or maybe not. We got Thomas Partey.
Sure, he’s a good player. The question is will he get Arsenal from 2nd to 1st. Doubtful.
If we can’t get a left forward or striker this summer we should aim to get another creative midfielder who can play along side odegaard for teams that are sitting back and defending their box, because relying on wing play really isn’t working g for us at the moment!
100% this
Just goes to show ‘new signings’ can be a ‘mirage’ – looking at the list only Bruno G would have been positive & some (Mudryk) in the Pepe or Worse category – Having said that ‘attacking options are needed badly’!!
Reminds me of the list of players Wenger had expressed interest in at one time or another. Always easy to have FOMO about players we had little chance of signing who turned out to be stars, e.g. Mbappe.
It’s even easier to forget about those who flopped or wouldn’t have fit our system and forget that this is part careful talent evaluation and part crap shoot.
Finally time to pull the trigger on Loic Remy
We should take Sebastien Frey once!
Too traumatised to ever trust someone named Frey. I read a book once where they did really bad things at a wedding.
